I've got a quick question about parking fines.

Do the inspectors have to put the fine on the windscreen, or are they allowed to send it via mail?

My impression was that they had to at least confirm the car details via the rego sticker.

At the time of my fine, i was in the car, and at no point did an inspector approach. Two weeks later i get a letter in the mail, with the $100 fine sticker attached to said letter.

Not querying my guilt, just querying their methods.

Not too sure. But I once got a parking fine on my windscreen, and I was so ****ed off that I screwed it up and just threw it on the ground.

Then they sent out a letter in the mail about it. But I have heard that you don't even have to pay parking fines, all they can do is take you to court, and force you to pay it. But I'm not sure if they would bother taking you to court over a 50 or 100 dollar fine.

like the one that was on tv a few weeks ago hiding in the bushes

some of them would probably ping you for leaving the car to get a ticket even!

anyway if you were in the car at the time would he have to come up to your car to see if you had a ticket on the dash? or was it one of those computer ones?

yeh and if you say youre still not paying it you only have to do a couple of hours of community service, which basically means turning up and doing heck all, lol what are they going to do if you dont work, sack you? haha

That actually happened to a friend of mine. She parked her car, and didn't have any change, so she went to the closest shop to change a note, and when she came back she had a fine, so she bought her parking ticket.

Then she sent a letter off to the council with her ticket and her fine explaining what she did, and they let her off.

Nah, it wasn't a ticketed area, 'twas free parking.

There was a group of parking spots, i pulled up behind the last spot (wasn't covering any thoroughfares), left the motor running, whilst my passenger ran to the PO to post a letter.

Was there for a matter of 2-3 minutes, and saw no sign of any inspectors.

A few weeks later i get the $100 fine in the mail.

If the guy was around, why didn't he either come up and ask me to move, or simply hand me the ticket? Seems rather shady to me.

hmmm... damn..

i got about 3 outstanding parking/traffic offence tickets i've yet to pay...

here in nsw...
u get a reminder letter...
then u get the letter from the state debt recovery office (with the addition of a $50 fee)...
then another letter from the above office with another additional fee...

if u still dont pay.... u wont be able to register your car...
(have to clear your unpaid fines before u can get your registration sticker... $#@)

Just my opinion. I think if the law says that you shouldn't be there, then you don't actually have to be told at the time. In the sense that the parking inspector can be around but doesn't have to knock on your window.

He/she would still be entering in your details on that little thingamygig ie. rego, time, place etc.

Long gone are the days when you get that nice piece of paper actually letting you know you are getting a fine in two weeks. :(

its a bit rough though, i heard some guy ring up a talkback station and he said he got fined for driving a truck where smoke was coming out of it. He claimed smoke never comes out. The moral here is they should at least give you the right of reply, especially if you are in your vehicle, so you can at least argue your case. I'm surprised you were able to remember the incident, because a lot of ppl would get those fines not having any recollection of the event.

Probably a gutless dweeb too afraid of any sort of confrontation

Nope, this sort of subterfuge is common these days. It's 1984, say hello to Big Brother.

I got a parking fine in the mail, for a event that took place on the other side of town, allegedly in a car that I had taken to the wreckers 6 months earlier, and the plates back to VicRoads.
It took a letter from VicRoads, documentation from the wreckers, and a stat dec for them to decide 3 months later that they would let it go.
Frankly, by that stage I was happy to go to court. Hopefully that grey ghost had some commission taken off for that screw up.

How the fk did that happen??? I would want more than to be let off for it, I'd want some kind of credit for next time!

I haven't actually got a parking fine yet, I've had 4 speeding fines tho, 3 of which were less than 10 over :o
