Nickname: ?

DOB: 10/6/1981

Height: 189cm

Weight: 94 kg

Playing number: 38

Arrived: Drafted at pick 16 in the 1999 national draft, from Geelong Falcons

Debut: Round 13, 2000 vs Brisbane– 125th Eagles player

Games: 46

Goals: 43

Departed: Traded to Geelong at the end of the 2003 season for pick 20 (Sam Butler).

Originally from North Warrnambool in Victoria’s south-west, Haynes arrived at West Coast after being selected at number 16 in the 1999 national draft, a pick obtained from Fremantle in return for Brendan Fewster.

Haynes struggled for gametime in his first three seasons, managing just 25 games. In 2003, however, he broke into the senior side full-time. Usually a half-forward flanker, Haynes spent most of the season playing out of the square, and kicked 27 goals in 21 games.

His final match in blue and gold was the elimination final loss to the Crows. At the end of the season he was traded home to Geelong in return for pick 20, which was used on premiership player Sam Butler.

Haynes managed 19 games in two seasons for the Cats before being delisted at the end of the 2005 season.

Where is he now? Back at his junior club, North Warrnambool in the Hampden Football League, where he is the playing coach

The only memory I have of him is kicking one out on the full against Hawthorn in 2003, we were up by 60 odd anyway.

Re: Past player of the week - David Haynes

Only memory i have of him is taking a nice one handed grab in the goal square at etihad dont ask me who we were playing though all i know is spud carroll was playing for us as well..

Re: Past player of the week - David Haynes

didnt he used to rock out the ol longsleeve jumper?

Re: Past player of the week - David Haynes

i had great hopes for him but he was the one that finally convinced me that unless the guy is an absolute freakish talent (ala Daicos, Ablett) you're forwards focal point needs to be a big monster of a guy.... and then we drafted mckinley and edwards...

Re: Past player of the week - David Haynes

I remember him at Geelong and was very serviceable, in fact he was proving to be the match-winner for us in the 2004 preliminary final, after halftime he started to find alot of space as he was always deceptively tall but good overhead and at ground level so it took Brisbane a quarter or two to get the right match up for him.
So that was Brett Spinks, Mitchell White, David Haynes & Derek Hall whom we got from you guys in a similar period of time:rolleyes:

Sure you dont mean the 2004 semi final? he didnt play the 2nd half of the prelim because he rolled his ankle.

I was a fan..but he made some "omg" type mistakes, like missing open goals from 5 and 10 metres respectivly in the 04 semi and preliminary finals.
