Nickname: Beanz

DOB: 31/3/1967

Height: 190cm

Weight: 91 kg

Playing number: 22

Arrived: Drafted at pick 24 in the 1988 national draft, from Port Adelaide

Debut: Round 1, 1991 vs Melbourne – 65th Eagles player.

Games: 73

Goals: 55

Departed: Traded to Fremantle at the end of the 1995 season for Philip Matera and pick 3 (used on Brendon Fewster).

Hynes had just won a premiership with the Magpies in the SANFL when he was drafted in 1988, and stayed in South Australia to win two more flags before finally coming west for the 1991 season.

Hynes’ biggest strength was his versatility, and during his time at West Coast he was used as a key forward, key back and an undersized but competitive ruckman.

Despite playing 17 games for the season, the big South Australian missed out on the 1992 premiership. Two years later he was part of the 1994 premiership side, splitting the ruck duties with Ryan Turnbull as the Eagles beat Geelong to win their second flag.

After a fairly quiet 1995, Hynes moved to crosstown rivals Fremantle. Hynes played just 13 games in the purple and West Coast netted Phil Matera and Brendon Fewster from the deal, making the trade a pretty big success. Hynes retired in 1997.

Where is he now? An assistant coach at East Perth

Wonder if it's the same David Hynes who has his name all over the press releases that Transperth puts out every time there's a stuff up (i.e daily)?

Also - Hynes needs mad props for his goatee sported in his early days with us. Looked like a psycho bikie.

I used to wonder that too, but that David Hynes is a fair bit older.

Very handy player, was unlucky in 1992, but I was happy to see he got his reward in 1994. We did well out of Freo and Port didn't we. Gardy, Wirra, Phil Matera, too bad we haven't taken advantage of GWS and Gold Coast
