Good first up game by Rosa, a little rusty at the start which is understandable given he has had a limited pre-season. I felt he improved as the game went on and was still working hard to get into space late in the game when others were fatiguing, btw it was 11 possies in the last qtr not 15 as posted in the Game Day Thread :)

Looking forward to another solid season from Rosa in 2013, is one of the veterans now and will need to lead from the front. Has added hardness to his game which saw him cop a number of high impact injuries.

Hoping he stays fit for the 2013 season as he is a vital cog in our premiership chances.

All hail Matt "Thorny' Rosa!

Some info on Thorny from the AFL prospectus, thanks goes to 92942006 for posting it originally!

Matt Rosa – MID
Rosa had a similar output to his previous years as an outside midfielder, recording the second-most uncontested possessions at the club behind Andrew Gaff. He played purely as a linkman, winning 80% of his disposals in the midfield – the highest percentage of any west coast player – and executed these under the least pressure of any midfielder at the club. Despite this space Rosa’s kicking rated only average and he recorded the worst retention rate and score percentage of the top 10 players at the club for kicks into the forward 50. He ranks second at the club for handball-receives across the past four years and his 43 disposal game in the derby in round 9 was the second-highest by an Eagles since 1999

Unfortunately doesn't really do justice to the hardness Matty has shown when it has been his turn to go, he has consistently put his body on the line.

Rosa (quad) 2-3 weeks

Slowly slowly getting closer to the return. Wouldn't be surprised to see him spend a week or two in the WAFL for some match fitness, will be great to have him back to take some of the pressure off Gaffy on the other wing.

Definitely in the Michael Braun mold where he runs all day and offers fantastic spread. He's one of the links we are really missing moving from half back to half forward at the moment.

Rosa (quad) test

Fantastic news! Matty on the comeback trail.

Remains to be seen whether he'll come back through the WAFL or straight into the side.

Can't wait to see his run and carry again, will be much needed if we are to get some kind of winning run happening.

Matt Rosa lined up for the Royals today in their win over the Sharks.

M.Rosa 18D 8K 10H

A respectable start for his first game back in 6 weeks or so. Will be interesting to see if he comes back into the side next week or gets another run in the WAFL.

WAFL report from the weekends game.

When the Royals caused an upset at East Fremantle Oval, experienced wingman Matt Rosa was also prominent. Resuming from a nasty thigh injury incurred in the pre-season clash with Port in Alice Springs, Rosa worked his way into the contest and was still running hard at the game’s conclusion.

He had 20 possessions and will be another making a strong claim for inclusion this week.

Fantastic game from Rosa for the Royals, in a well beaten side he managed to amass 29 disposals. With strong form like this it's only a matter of time before he is playing in the blue and gold once again.

Matty named as an emergency, surely MC are on drugs. Is vital for the run he provides through the midfield.

Hopefully will see Sinclair dropped for him on the day considering taking 3 rucks into a game when its our lack of run that has been killing us is just utter stupidity.

Rosa once again featured strongly in the WAFL report. Good signs and is pressing his claim for a recall back to the team.

Wingman Matt Rosa is another whose weight of performance in the three weeks since resuming from a serious thigh injury, uncompromising defender Adam Selwood and the ultra-consistent Blayne Wilson, were key contributors when East Perth finished over the top of South Fremantle.

Rosa ran hard and strong, gathering 25 possessions and taking six marks to signal he is ready for a return to elite football while Selwood, playing midfield and back, had 23 disposals, including an important last-quarter goal.

Rosa's first hitout for the Blue and Gold in season 2013 was a solid display. He totaled 22 disposals, 2 marks, 3 tackles and a crucial goal to give the Eagles an important buffer late in the game.

As he returns to full AFL match fitness expect those disposal totals to get higher and higher as the hard running wingman provides plenty of run and carry for us.

Well done Matty!
