Simon Eastaugh was a ruckman who endured a fairly unusual football journey. Hailing from Shepparton, Eastaugh was first picked up by Richmond with pick 61 in the 1989 VFL draft as a 16 year old. He spent four years on the Tigers' list, but didn't play a game, and was delisted. Eastaugh then moved to South Australia, spending two years with Norwood, where he helped them to win a premiership in 1997.

His time at Norwood got him noticed by Essendon, and he was picked up by them in the 1997 draft. He played 12 games in his first season at the club - normally playing as backup ruckman to Alessio - including every game between round 6 and 14, and the Qualifying Final. However, he was out of favour by the next year, playing only five games in 1999, and none in 2000, before being delisted. He was then picked up by another AFL club - Fremantle, in desperate need of a backup ruckman for the injury prone Clem Michael and Justin Longmuir. He lasted two seasons at the Dockers before retiring.

He went on to play in the WAFL for South Fremantle and East Fremantle, then coached Perth for two seasons. He has since coached at both West Coast and Fremantle (where he is now) as ruck coach.

What a great day was the 1999 Reserves Grand Final. Eastaugh's expletive laden interview after receiving the cup, and TD ( coach ) sauntering out in a t-shirt and shorts. And that was the day that Steven Milne kicked 5 but somehow ended up at StKilda.
