Missed the game, somehow it makes the defeat easier to swallow.

Anyway, how did Patto play? Did he consolidate after last weekend's promising performance or did he slip back to a Ben Marsh level?

Thursfield??

Didnt really rate Patto's game. Did some okay things but got cut up by hille around the game and in the ruck.

Thursfield looked like he was in for a tough nigh early. An extremely soft free on lloyd, worse then the rihco one, then a clever mark on the goal line by lloyd but he came back and really held lloyd well after halftime. Made some very important spoils.

patto played well, and was good in winning contested possessions. he has a lot of stamina compared to the other younger players.

dont like to bag the kid. he tried hard again got some possesions but got smashed in ruck again. how many goals did hille set up. ive said it before and i will say it again when simmo is back pattison needs to go to coburg to continue his education and work on his atrocious skills.

Pattison isnt meant to become a ruckman though, its just because we dont have anyone else.

Got smashed early and was compounded by dropping an easy mark inside 50. But worked himself into the game, kicked a goal and got touches around the ground. Still needs plenty of work but hes improving. Cant ask for much more

i agree you cant ask for much more he gives his all. the simple fact is if we had a genuine ruckman playing last night we probably would have won the game. atm patto is not a good enough ruckman for afl footy. he needs to bulk up big time and learn how to ruck. imo he will make niether a kpp or ruckman at this stage. his pace agility and skills are terrible. he needs to find a leap as well.

Hille has also had 6 more preseasons and should be expected to kill Pattison in the ruck. Having Simmonds out is definetly helping Pattison develop as a player.

his bulk flogged patto, countless times he was knocked for six in the ruck..again in a contest in the goalsquare...'This part of his game will improve

Thought his around the ground work was really good last night. has a good nack of winning a contested ball and getting a hands off to a running player. Hille did kill him in the ruck but the boy is learning. there is plenty to work with when his frame fills out.

gotta give it to the kid...he franked last weeks form with another good performance. Keep it up Patto...if its purely a case of development...then you are on track. Starting to get the timing right when going up for a mark too...;)

i was disapointed with his game.. made some bad errors.. droped a eays chest mark, un contested. should not happen at AFL level. was shite in the first half.. picked up a bit second half.. needs a lot of work.. however it doesnt help simmonds is out etc.. but having said that, one would suspect that he wont get much of a game once simmonds is back unfortuantly..

He will derive huge benefit from Simmonds when he gets back .... been given a very tough gig before he is ready and is making a good fist of it . Good enough to keep getting a game anywayz .

Whatever happens , he gets a game over Knobel for the rest of the year . We are not going to play finals this year and it would serve absolutely no purpose at all to play Knobel over him "EVER" again

whatever the case dude....3 big men is better that one semi big man..
We need depth...and if it becomes a case where we have knobo in the 2s, awaiting his "chance" then we are on the way. ;)

I thought he got murdered in the ruck. We all need to be careful not to rate Patto's performance based on how he performs when the heat has already gone out of teh game...when it counted early in the game, he was murdered. Hille indirectly contributed to countless goals.

Having said that, our midfielders were murdered as well re clearances.

Even with Patto's improving performances, I cannot see him every becoming anywhere near the ruckman that Cameron Wood will be. He doesnt have the height or spring to get first hands to the ball. He will never have great skills either. You can guarantee that every game he plays, he will make a handful of critical skill errors. Whether they be kicking, marking etc etc.

I would have been rapt if we picked up a player like Patto in the 3rd or 4th round of the draft. To pick him up in teh first round has cost us.

Patto started bad but how the hell doesnt it count later in the game when the game was still wel and truly still on the line???

i've been really impresse with his workrate and spirit - he, to me, looks like a player who gives a toss.

works hard around the ground - makes some mistakes, but will work to correct them - needs to come up with a way to make himself more competitive in the ruck duals though

i look forward to him and simm playing together, will make us much much stronger in that department

WTF?

The game was close and the heat was on the whole time. Its not like the Geelong game where it was over at quarter time.

Shane Tucks dropped mark (when the heat had gone out of the game ;)) and the scores were level with about a minute left was far more crucial.

I reckon Patto's going ok. Had a huge job against the man moountain Hille and was no doubt beaten but I thought he had a real crack and in a few years will be a very handy ruck/forward.

Saw in the paper last week that the first touch in the ruck contest is becoming less and less important. It is now run and carry, accurate long kicking as well as making it too as many contests as possible that are now the most important parts as footy.

If this is the case there are not many ruckman in the league who are going to be able to keep up with patto. Once he puts on enough bulk to make a 50/50 contest in the ruck he will become a linkman in the mould of Cox and Simmonds.

Can't see Cameron Wood keeping up with Patto around the ground

agree - think he has shown some real quality as a person the way he has fought his butt off against the odds. will make a great rucking partner to simmo:thumbsu:
