Dont know why, dont know how, just had the feeling that his presence gave us something when he came on, on saturday night. It was as if we needed his compsure at a pretty crucial time, when the roos were about to bend us over. Thought his arrival coincided with or change in fortunes, but i really cant find the answers as to why. Anyone else have a clue? It was like he steadied the ship...or something like that. ;)

I agree Cogga. He has a subtle affect on the side, probably his example of competitiveness.

One of Patto,s strengths played its part Sat night. His endurance had his opponent on the hop[pardon the punt].Left some gaps in our fwd line for the likes of nahas, jack etc to run into.:)
Not to mention making a contest.Something missing in our fwd line the past 4 weeks apart from Richo.

not sure that Patto had as greater impact as Gus, more importantly simmo wasnt in their losing ea and every contest in the middle like R1 1, 3 & 4 where the opposing ruckman was pretty well BOG...make NO mistake he ****en well cost us

Gotta luv the big fella, gives it 100% everytime. There was one great moment in the last quarter that personified Patto, with the ball running lose around half forward it bounces up high and you know if he reaches for it with his head up its gonna get knocked clean off. No hesitation eyes stay right on the ball his head follows and he grabs it and handballs off to someone I've forgotten who kicks the goal. Great courage and selflessness. A genuine team player and good on him. Matty White had one similar in the centre of the ground with a potential high speed collision but he never waivered either. Those sorts of things are what builds teams, good old fashioned g&d.

Harvey's injury helped (even though he hadn't touched the ball to that stage) and Firrito's temporary absence helped too (he was killing us) but I agree Patto was important. I get the impression he does exactly as he's told by the coaching staff. Selfless acts for the good of the team; not overestimating his capabilities; taking the first option; keeping his head (although he nearly lost it in that tap on) and he's enthusiastic, always geeing up those around him. He has his limitations but I think Patto is a smart footballer. There's plenty of upside - and we've got more than 50 games into him and he's only 23. Plenty of time left for a big bloke. Love him.

He attacks the ball very well on the ground.
His tap in the 2nd quarter to Riewoldt when the ball was indispute was very clever, which is something I didnt think he had in him.

Good statment and question

There is your answer

Gotta love the way he goes about it. He gave us a target going forward an although he didn't get a lot of the footy he gave a contest everytime. A much needed player.

patto tries hard but isnt good enough to be a ruck nor have the body strength or agility or the skills to be a kpp. he has relatively good ball handling skills off the ground but i dont know where they can play him.

Yes!

He has that sometimes undefinable quality which we collectively call a "football brain".

I disagree about his ability to play kpp. He needs more conditioning and needs to recapture the strength that made him an outstanding junior - the strong mark. If he can start taking a few good grabs he will make a good target at CHF. There is no reason he cannot be as mobile as a Roughead.
