Aston Villa,
i have a feelng in my left nut that patty will impress this year....

has he bulked up a bit? with laycock out he has to make an impression early!

strained his hammy. Reports say he did laps on Wednesday.

Official site ruled JJ and Campo from round 1, but left Laycock as "in doubt".

With his injury history I highly doubt he will play.

Ah bugger, you're right.

Apparantly will miss round 1 at least.

Someone needs to step up, Paddy will get his chances and hopefully he takes them.

Hopefully Laycock and Ryder can both make progress this season, problem being, trying to fit them both into a side that already has Hille and 3 tall forwards!

Personally i would play Ryder ahead of Laycock this year anyway. I think in the long term he will develop into a better player that laycock and could also be one of the domintant ruckmen in 3-4 years.

Laycock also has all the tools to be a dominate ruckman alot sooner if he can stay on the park

I know it's an ugly word, but, potentially, we have one of the best list of "talls" in the competition.

If the likes of Jon Brown, Nick Reiwoldt, Lloys etc increase their influence on games this year, the demand will strengthen. i tihnk we need to seriously looking at trading one or two of our talls at the end of this year for some class in the guts....

having said that, I really, really like paddy.....special!

although paddy may have a good year, there is no need to rush him.

don't forget that he's only 18

Actually he's 19 but thats sematics.

Interesting you guys think he will be a gun ruck, I got the impression he was being trained up at CHB during the preaseason? Do you think he will play there this season or more as the backup ruck?

How many games do you expect from him ?

depends on Laycock, who if can play the majority of the season, will allow Ryder to be developed as the club wants.

And yea he turned 19 last week.

In one full pre-season ryder has changed his body shape. He looks like a real athlete now who can play numerous positions. Maybe its a just a lift in intensity but he looks to be alot more explosive speed-wise than last year.

I'd still like to see Laycock as the number 2 ruckman though, Ryder can serve his apprenticeship as a third tall in defense.

don't forget goodes started as a defender before being put in the ruck

I agree, although as long as he plays in tandem with Hille or someone we might be able to pick up in the future that has an air of dominance about them. Not sure Paddy will be able to grab a game by the throat before he turns 25. Still early days, though. Laycock is the biggest disappointment for me at the minute...wouldnt mind seeing what he's market value is at season's end.

If one more bloody person pronounces Paddy "Patty"...I'll..

Yeah i heard Ryder likes be Patrick. His one of my favourite players, if Gumbleton was taken on that player watch i would have taken Patrick in a flash. He is Mr Potential!

He doesn't mind being called Paddy as a nickname, but if it's in an official report/newspaper article etc, he'd rather Patrick was used

as hille and laycock are still very young, there is no need to rush paddy into being our best ruckman.

this year should be spent developing him as a CHB. If that means he has to play for Bendigo so be it.

Obviously he can fill in if needed, e.g. round 1. Don't forget Lachlan McKinnon is on our rookie list and from what i have seen of him has been very impressive.
