Hey Guys,

Just wanted your thoughts on how good of a player you think Paul Pierce is. I dont think he gets enough recognition for just how good he is. I was having a conversation today and was explaining how good he has been for the celtics i would have him in my top 15 players in the NBA. I would think that he is not quite as good as your Kobe's or Lebrons but would be the equivalent of a Tracy McGrady. I would like to hear peoples thoughts on what they think of the man.....

Thanks

He is a champion and a true Celt, and yes he is very underrated and hopefully he'll join the celtic championship players this year, with Ray A and KG in our team.

Apparently he is now the 3rd highest point score in Celtic history, a remarkable feat :)

Also he is sure as #@%$@ better then a Tracy McGrady both as a player and a human being.

He is not underrated by any stretch - I'd say most would have him somewhere outside the top 10 but inside the top 30, which is fair enough.

Can I please have some of what you all are taking?

How you could ever class PP in the same hemisphere as TMac I will never ever know. TMac when fit is close to being the best player in the league.

Pierce at best is a half-assed attempted at an all-star. His continous winging and moaning ensures that he can never be classed in the same hemisphere as other SFs in the league.

He is great offensively but very much seems to lack the mental toughness and the defensive skills that a good player needs to go to the next level to become a great.

There is no big three at the Celts, Its 2.5 at best at this stage and will remain that way untill PP is able to show he can impose himself when it matters.

"when t-mac is fit" is the key.

i reckon PP has been lost in a team thats been poor in recent times, thus he doesn't get the recognition. also being in the east doesnt help.

last season being injured he still averaged 25 pts and 5 boards. not bad!!! if comparing him to tmac id say tmac has the ability to explode for 50 pts anytime, but just as likely to get injured. PP will steadily give you 25, 5, 4 a game.

Only if you give me what you're having.

So you would say he's a Northern or Southern Hemisphere guy? and which is T-mac? I mean if Pierce is Northern, then T-Mac is Southern? Or is it the other way around?

Pierce, although not a great defender, is ok. McGrady is a terrible defender. Not sure why you'd bring that up.

Like, say, taking his team out of the first round? Oops.

God knows how anyone can say Mac is a terrible defender, the guy did the job every time JVG asked him to and was rarely beaten. Held Dirk on numerous occasions as well.

In a system in which did not suit Tracy at all he still found a way to make his team mates better than they were. He carried Houston while Yao was out and got them the 4th best record in the West. As soon as Yao went down everyone thought Houston were gone for the year but he rose to a level many thought he didn't have in him anymore.

You are forgetting how easy it is to say things like that when they help your argument.

T-Mac has never been a poor defender, even at the Magic he was our best on both ends of the floor.

McGrady had a very good season last year, and did very well as a playmaker for Houston. But he didn't guard the other team's best wing, Battier did. Pierce on the other hand does guard the other team's best wing.

T-mac was a good defender in his first season or two with the Raptors. Ever since then he saves his energy for offense, where he is a very good player. My response was prompted simply by someone calling McGrady the best player in the league when fit, and calling Pierce junk. Neither of which are remotely true statements. They're both somewhere in the 10-30 range.

Why bother arguing over PP and T-Mac?

Both are legit stars of the game when fit and on song.

Pierce with injuries and the team around him hasn't been able to play in a system and style which compliments his game best probably since Toine left the first time.

He's just a wonderful all round basketballer who isn't a ball hog and doesn't need the ball to contribute to the team on court.

A very good club cpatain.

Pierce is 10 times the player than McGrady, why are we even having this conversation. McGrady is weak as piss, would anyone ever see Pierce or Le Bron crying in a post game conference HELL NO, he's a born loser who has never been out of the first round while Pierce back 5 years ago nearly died and delivers his best season ever............. tough as nails.
And by the way how many times has T-Mac been named to the all defence team? for a player so long and athletic he should be the defender that Kobe is but he isn't. Who has played with better players in the past? T-Mac has played with way more talent his whole career..... yet Pierce has more success..
