If you had to choose an existing coach to replace Pagan who would you pick? To me Roos is the perfect fit. Came in as a nightwatchmen at Sydney when there was a lot of turmoil and held it all together. Think he matches Carlton really well. Very cool under pressure.

Unfortunately Paul Roos has stated on a number of occasions that he has no intention of being a career coach. I suspect that when he has completed his stint in Sydney, that will be the end of his AFL coaching career.

Paul Roos was without a doubt the right man for the Sydney gig, but whether that could have been translated to another club is debatable & something we will probably never know the answer to.

I think you'll find threads about Roos on just about every club board here. Certainly every club that has been through hard times at all in the past three or four years. He's unavailable, I'm afraid.

I just hope that when the time comes you steer clear of that '95 clique that seems to be hanging around like a bad smell at the moment. I don't think the likes of Fraser Brown and Greg Williams have the answers to your woes.

You'll never get Roos but any one of his current or former assistants - Longmire, Malaxos or Jonas (Lyon is taken) would be a great pick-up.

We need a untried coach atm. Cheap but with the potential to be great. Longmiur would be the guy who I'd want coaching Carlton.

He'd be cheap no doubt but I don't see him as senior coach material, and its way too early anyway. We should look at experienced assistant coaches like McKenna and Longmiur if we ever sack Pagan.

Throw Chris Bond's hat into the ring as well & not forgetting our very own Ratts. The main thing I want to see when Pagan is replaced is a thorough interview process, not the Pagan out, Mitchell in, debacle that we saw in September.

(1)Commentating he has fained knowledge of the modern game.
(2)Played modern when he was playing, good defense and good in attack. Which would be a nice change from the all out scorefests we see these days (apart from sydney! ).
(3) Has gained some coaching experience at Saints

Maybe after he's done a couple of years up in Cairns. Not sure he's quite ready yet.

I work with a guy who spent a bit of time on Melbourne's list while Ratten was an assistant coach there and he reckons that Ratts would make an awesome senior coach. Really knows his stuff but can alsm communicate it to the players as well. Has the respect of everybody and is really good with young players. Sounds to me like we won't have to look to far when Pagan is given the boot/retires/comes out of contract.
