and dont forget the booze ban imposed on him at one stage, upon which he went thru the worst performances of his career. seeing the error of their ways, the coaches said forget it, just drink, and PVHD returned to his best.

somehow i think it might have been an act. it worked.

the stories are legendary & many.

Phew...thought for a horrible moment when I saw the thread title his hard living ways had caught up with him. Very glad they haven't.

Definitely a favourite player in the 80s, the game is much poorer for not having his type playing. Would love to have been there (and been old enough) for the famous Knights v VDH duel at Windy Hill in 1978.

But would be great to see a Junior Flying Dutchman pull on the red and black.
