I keep hearing his name being brought up in trade talk. Why?
It was only a year ago he was ready to crack into our top 7 or 8 players and was so crucial to our setup. A lot of people underestimate how good he was in 2002. He may not be the hardest player around but he has other weapons that more than make up for it. He can play almost anywhere and there is no player in the comp who has a longer, more penetrating kick. He's a unique player who's lacking in confidence and trading him would be a move we would regret.

It might depend who we get for him. You're right he is a unique player. He's played a variety of roles for us & shown plenty.

You have to trade quality to get quality though & he's a candidate.

he has some height, build, speed and some skills

he could be a star but yes he hasnt been one

out of the 2000 draft we got Bruce (star of the game), Green (solid forward pocket), Godfrey (improving tagger) and Whelan (fast and reliable small defender)

wheatley could be useful for geelong or western bulldogs

teams who are lacking height and aggresion

i wouldnt mind a quick, young midfielder for him

coz u have to admit besides Yze and Jonstone (sometimes) we have no other star midfielders

oh i forgot bruce

heffs and rigoni are ok

maca tries but if we had someone atleast half as good as Judd that would be good

ps: judd and goddard went to my secondary skool

I would be looking at Russell Robertson, Brad Green, Jeff White and Chris Heffernan(if we could) as trade bait before Wheatley.

We need midfielders and maybe a centre half forward. Wheatley won't get us anything. The potential loss would be far greater than the gain.

jeff white?

u freakin crazy

jolly might be getting better but will still need white

robo is in great form this year and will finish about 1-3 in melbournes best and fairest

green is our only forward who can score a bag of goals besides neitz and robbo occasionly

i think we need to keep heffernan since he has experience and the experience of playing in a premiership team

and he aint a bad midfielder and thats wat we are trying tog et right?

mabie Williams, Walsh or Ward

3 young half backs (even though red heads dont look young)

wif a lot of run they could get us something

also we are gunna finish 14-13 so we will probably aim for midfielder this year

last year we went for tall defenders (smith carroll and fergeson)

we got em and they ahve been....ok but we need to get players simalar to wat we got in 2000

WTF?

Wheatley is a complete hack, and you're telling me that you would trade 4 quality players before him?

White: Yes, he is trade bait, but only if we can get an early draft pick or a good player like Murphy.

Robertson: No way. Having a very good season and is a great clubman.

Green: Only if we can get quality.

Heffernan:   . What have you got against him? He would be Top 10 in our B&F at the moment, and will finish Top 5. Next year he will become our best midfielder (with Yze). C-L-A-S-S. A big thank you to Kevin Sheedy.

But yes, you would trade all of the above before a hack like Wheatley. He is ****.

And Broady, Wheatley could get us a player like Jordan McMahon. Clubs will look at him because he is tall and has a big kick on him. What they don't realise is that he is a soft ****.

No way we can trade White, Jol & Russian are handy back up's but niether is ready for the Number 1 role yet.

Heff deserves another go.

I'd say that our tradable players would be:

Lamb (Was great last season, no chance this year)

Walsh (Not getting ground time yet still effective when on)

Wheatley (Endless potential, but i'm running out of patience!)

Aaron Rogers???

All White's good for is his centre square work. He's a liability around the ground. If there was a stat for losing a ball you could've won White would be leading it with Heffernan a close second. A player like White could get us something big.

No better time to trade him then.

green is our only forward who can score a bag of goals besides neitz and robbo occasionly

As good as Green and Robbo can be theyre not players who are going to be the driving force behind us winning a premiership. It's those players we should be targeting and it's players like Green and Robbo who we could be using to get them.

i think we need to keep heffernan since he has experience and the experience of playing in a premiership team

and he aint a bad midfielder and thats wat we are trying tog et right?

We should be looking at players who will win us a premiership not players who "aren't bad".

mabie Williams, Walsh or Ward

These are 3 possibilities but if Daniher stays so will all our half back flankers.

Wheatley would get us **** compared to what White, Green, Robertson or Heffernan could and is potentially more dangerous than all three. He's a player I can see playing a key part in a top side but with Green, Robertson and Heffernan I can't.

Heffernan:    What have you got against him? He would be Top 10 in our B&F at the moment, and will finish Top 5. Next year he will become our best midfielder (with Yze). C-L-A-S-S. A big thank you to Kevin Sheedy.

If Heffernan becomes our best midfielder we are in serious trouble. There’s a reason Essendon got rid of him. There’s a reason Essendon got rid of Blumfield and Carracella. They're simply not good enough to be leading midfielders in a top of the ladder team. They don't accept 2nd best. You just have to look at the players who have made up the last 3 premiership sides. Mark Johnson, Jason Johnson, Dean Wallis, Paul Barnard, Damien Hardwick, Dean Solomon, Michael Voss, Justin Leppitsch, Chris Scott, Brad Scott, Jonothan Brown. All aggressive, intimidating, ruthless players who stand up for themselves and their teammates and win contests. We have none of these players. We need some. If you can’t see that you are blind.

And Broady, Wheatley could get us a player like Jordan McMahon. Clubs will look at him because he is tall and has a big kick on him. What they don't realise is that he is a soft ****.

The Bulldogs wouldn’t touch that and I don’t really want McMahon anyway.

And accusing Wheatley of being a soft**** is a bit hypocritical when the player your defending gives a new meaning to the word.

i follow collingwood, and id love to have robbo in our forward line. we could then put didak up the ground. robbo is proberly the only player id take from melbourne, the rest lack spark.

Robbo's not going to be offered, he's played more good games this season than in the the rest of his career. I wasn't a fan of his in the past but he's been great this year.

Jolly & Jamar are not no.1 ruckmen yet so unless we can trade for one, we won't be trading White.

Heffernan is no soft****. In fact, he is 3rd behind Godders and Wrecker for tackles this season. Trust me, he will be Top 10 in the B&F at this stage and will only get better.

Right, let's get something straight.

Heffernan will not be traded. Period. White will not be traded. Period. Anyone who thinks they will be needs a kick in the head. Are we forgetting White's form of 98, 2000 and 2002? Sure, he has off seasons, but when he's on, he can't be stopped. He sure as hell fills holes better than Big Darren! And Heffernan has been great for us.

Wheatley is a definate, and I think he will get something decent for us. Wouldn't mind sending him down to the Cattery for a James Bartel, who is waaaay out of favour down there. And the Doggies could also use someone like him - and they won't be able to fit everyone under the cap.

Walsh won't be traded, Lamb will be, Rogers delisted.

And if White get's traded, I won't drink beer all summer.

Fair enough, although my 21st doesn't count in this! :D

lamb wont get anyone after playing like 2 games this year

ward and walsh have been ok this yeat but i dont think many culbs would have noticed

green is the future for our forward line so we need him

robbo.......he is in good form so mabie he could get a hard running midfielder for him

i dont think we should be going for key defenders anymore

nicholson is in great form, ellis will return, fergeson, smith, carroll and miller will only get better

we need midfielders now

with bruce, neitz, green and robbo are firing our attack is one of the best but this year Yze has lacked support

white cant go he has to retire at melbource
