There has been much discussion lately on the main board as to Pavlich's best position.
The coach seems to think that in the midfield is where he best serves the side.
And I can see where he is coming from because the thought of Haselby and Bell in the middle dishing it out to Pavlich or Headland who then kick it from 50-60 out is the stuff that dreams are made of.
His other option of course is down back where he won all australian honours. He is able to play on any player in the competition and usually totally blanket them while being attacking. Hes proven himself down back but is he wasted?
And of course up forward as the cream of an already imposing foward line. Able to pull down strong marks and kick long he is also the ideal half foward.
Of course some people are going to say play him everywhere and rotate him when needed, but if one position was required what do you think it would be?

My opinion is leave him down back, our midfield though not overly strong can stand on its own with the addition of Headland. He has proven himself down back, offers great leadership and secures up our backline. Along with McPharlin and Parker they make an extremely imposing trio, the likes of Grover give excellent support.
Where almost a perfectly rounded side and puting him in the middle I think will upset this balance.

Play him on a half back flank with a license to run, that way he can run straight through the lines and not have to change direction as often as he would in the midfield. I appreciate that he would probably be a sensational player in any position but the above is probably just a comprimise between a midfield role and CHB.

In essence, Davers, Pav did what u said but as a free player in the back half last year. Putting him on a man on a back flank is preposterous.

Third tall forward that is allowed to roam like Chad Cornes.
He can play anywhere, but that is where he would be most valuable to Freo.
If you then put Croad back in the backlines you will have a top forward line.

Pav

He is a CHF par excellence, despite my admiration for his midfield abilities and what it may mean for us in clinch situations.

I believe CC has a view to CHF in the long term, at least I hope he has, and will develop KP defenders after him.

I agree with my man Tony Clifton, in any case.

I actually like him at CHB, running forward, we should have enough forwards this year.

Come on fellas, your getting abit carried away here huh ?

He's only played 2 years afl and most of that he's played CHB

He is far from Carey status - not to say he hasnt the potential

Already done his 3 year appreticeship, with most of his last season spent around the CHB area. Prior to that he spent a fair amount of time at CHF.

Yes he's along way from Carey status, as he is scared of spas due to Clive and GHD.

Only managed to see the first quarter, but it confirmed my belief that Croad should be put in the backline and Pavlich up front in a Cornes type role. He doesn't need to mark the ball to kick goals, and is also able to set others up for goal.
Croad on the other hand only scores goals that would occur anyway, he doesn't create them.
The best I have seen him play for Hawthorn has been in the backline. He is strong and creates rebound.

He'll spend most of the year at CHB, as that's where he's going to be needed.

I have been saying this for years. IMHO Pavlich is one of the best CHF in the AFL and that where I would play him. Moce Croads backside to CHB and Play Pavlich at CHF with Justin Longmuir at FF. I honestly think he would be most dangerous in the forward line. Play him at CHF but give him licence to roam like Kangaroos did with Carey. If Adelaide where succesful in getting him last year he would have shared the responsibility with Mark Stevens at FF and CHF and he would be very dangerous in either of those positions. In Freo's case he is you best bet at CHF IMHO.;)

Cheers:)
