For some reason when I turn on my computer the monitor does not switch out of standby mode. Ive checked all the cables and tried another monitor on my PC, but for some reason the hard disk wont let the monitor go on. Im guessing somethings wrong when it boots up?

Any suggested reasons why this might be happening and any semi-easy way to fix it? Do you think it could be a virus or a physical fault?
I really cant be arsed hauling it down to the PC shop I got it from to get it fixed :)

Are you saying that the second monitor wont start?

Does the PC sound like it's starting up?

If you're video card is not 'on board' then it might be a bit loose, try reseating it or moving it to another slot if there is another slot. This used happen alot to me.

It could also be any other a few other things. When the bios starts it does a check of the components and if something is seriously wrong, such as memory missing it won't start the monitor. Some bios will give an idication of the problem though with either a series of lights on the main board or some beeping. You could try reseating all the main cables (not power) and the memory if all else fails.

The same thing happens with my monitor. I used it on another PC and it was fine, so obviously the first PC wasn't telling the monitor to turn on when it booted up. I never looked at getting it fixed, easier just to switch it on and off manually.

If the monitor don't turn on at all i would be making my first check around the video card
They do come loose from time to time hopefully it's just loose
