Peaking!!!

Hi all,

i have come across threads and posts regarding why we are not peaking, why this and why that after one round!!

lets be realistic, as much as it hurt losing round 1 our team is surely underdone and not to mention there are a few teams that are too.

therefore unlike teams like the Bombers, Saints, Richmond and probably Hawks all the other teams are gearing for peak fitness in the coming weeks.

Therefore those teams have hit the blocks running before round 1, something we all know will be hard to maintain over the next 21 games, but these teams:
A) wont have drastic improvement in fitness over the year - whereas us and likes of Sydney, Port even Kangas etc wont hit the peak straps until i would say round 6 or 7. a good month of solid footy will ensure we are travelling hard from mid season to the end of the season. Round 14 to 22 is where some teams will fade, we want to be still in there during that time and win a hand full of games while still trying to win some games before we have hit our peak.

B) due to not hitting peak now, we are in for some improvement in running out the game, intensity and a constant 4 quarter effort!!

now i will probably take a barrage of abuse, but these are my thoughts. we havent hit the season as hard as past years and i believe it be to our benefit as we will finish the year of strongly and take some momentum into next season, rather than finish poorly and starting pre season with no confidence!!

Remeber a young side cannot keep there fitness levels up for 22 games, whereas a team like Cats can due to there body maturity. But players like Judd, Stevo, Carlos, Fev, Fisher etc etc and even Walker when he comes back are all underdone and will take them a couple of weeks to find a solid fitness base. Once they hit that, Watch Out!!

Go Blues!!

Um, why would a club want to blow it's peak at the start of the season instead of building it up from mid season until the end without dropping too many games?

sorry should have explained it better

we want to win games early without hitting peak fitness. then once we do we should be able to compete harder and longer as the season drags on

i cant honestly say i will expect us to win more games in the 2nd half of the year than the first half!!

we dont want to hit peak at round 1 coz its harder to maintain your peak rather than building up to it!! Thats where teams such as Tiger, Bombers and you can put the Saints as well will struggle once teams have caught up to there fitness base!!

The blues are building up to it!!!

Ah, get what you mean now.

We peaked seemingly way too early the last few years. Ttrying really hard to win the NAB and falling away mid season is my example. To maintain fitness and build a peak I would summise to be almost immpossible. Injurys can happen any game and when they happen to top players it's affects the team negatively. I think a lot of undeterminable things help into having a great seasons. The explosion of young players into superstars and everything else coming together can be quite hard to control or predict.

Geelong last season is a great example. I think a lot of people had written them off the year before but everything came together perfectly during the season.

Not so sure that we will actually have a peak time this year to be honest . Being young and spasmodic with form , I think we'll witness a few wins where the team has gelled on the day but may not be able to maintain it the following week . I hope you are right Pamam and we do manage a peak and string a few together but as i pretty much said , i think we will only have a good day here and there .
Carna Blues . . . . .
