Hi all,
i have come across threads and posts regarding why we are not peaking, why this and why that after one round!!
lets be realistic, as much as it hurt losing round 1 our team is surely underdone and not to mention there are a few teams that are too.
therefore unlike teams like the Bombers, Saints, Richmond and probably Hawks all the other teams are gearing for peak fitness in the coming weeks.
Therefore those teams have hit the blocks running before round 1, something we all know will be hard to maintain over the next 21 games, but these teams:
A) wont have drastic improvement in fitness over the year - whereas us and likes of Sydney, Port even Kangas etc wont hit the peak straps until i would say round 6 or 7. a good month of solid footy will ensure we are travelling hard from mid season to the end of the season. Round 14 to 22 is where some teams will fade, we want to be still in there during that time and win a hand full of games while still trying to win some games before we have hit our peak.
B) due to not hitting peak now, we are in for some improvement in running out the game, intensity and a constant 4 quarter effort!!
now i will probably take a barrage of abuse, but these are my thoughts. we havent hit the season as hard as past years and i believe it be to our benefit as we will finish the year of strongly and take some momentum into next season, rather than finish poorly and starting pre season with no confidence!!
Remeber a young side cannot keep there fitness levels up for 22 games, whereas a team like Cats can due to there body maturity. But players like Judd, Stevo, Carlos, Fev, Fisher etc etc and even Walker when he comes back are all underdone and will take them a couple of weeks to find a solid fitness base. Once they hit that, Watch Out!!
Go Blues!!
