Schloithe just reminding us that there were 7 other players who should have been delisted ahead of him.

As someone who watches him a bit I wouldn't be surprised to see him back on an AFL list.

Bulldog mid kicking is a lot better than deboer and Barlow , they just handball, or miss target with kicking . grey ( I really do like him) is another one .

Going mostly off radio:

Souths are a very solid side, well balanced and too organised for Peel. Margin was the same as the Dockers (41 points) and it was a similar sort of game, a massive lapse mostly at the stoppages and on the defensive side of the ball in one 1/4 (4th in Peel's case) including some brain snaps turned a close game into a comfortable loss. Also like the senior side, it's the inability to drive often enough from the back half with purpose and cleanly that is the biggest issue. There weren't really enough scoring opportunities to ever win this game - sounds familiar.

Some notes on individuals:

- Barlow suffered a case of leather poisoning which is what you'd expect. Indicated his game was pretty good and deserves a call up, but given our circumstances and needs, not a certainty (though if Mzungu stays in his place, then I'll be very surprised). 39 touches, missed a fairly easy goal in junk time. 12 marks, most of them uncontested - he knows where to go on a footy oval, no doubting that.

- DeBoer similar. Lots of ball, but his drive with ball in hand isn't fantastic (nothing new). He can get the ball in the contested play, though, and if that's what we're after, he should go back to the big league. But his lack of penetration by foot is a problem at WAFL level, it's not going to get better at AFL level.

- Apeness had an OK game given his circumstances. Limited touches but did well when he did. 2 goals earlier in the game.

- Smith continuing to look good, moved well for a big man, puts himself in good spots, but is not quite clean enough with ball in hand, should really have finished with a couple of goals at least (kicked 1.2)

- Nyhuis was good for much of the game, he's looking impressive for a young'n, but not so great in the last.

Others might be able to fix that up and add to it.

Apeness 2 goals and back into state league level is a good start. At least another 3 and more games for Peel and he ll be back in the side. Rather him then Clarke

Apeness is coming from looong way back though. Will be more than a few weeks I reckon.

Also, going to be interesting how they manage all that. At some point they'll want to play Apeness as 'second ruck' and when Clarke plays WAFL that's basically impossible. They've also used Smith today (he was OK from what I could tell, not fantastic though) as the backup fwd/ruck thing. So you have Clarke (when back at Peel), Smith and Apeness all trying to play in the same sort of position and fighting for the one AFL spot. Clarke obviously has runs on the board, but his senior form as a FWD is so poor that the others might yet get a look in as the season unfolds.

I think it is a slow build with Apeness but I'd think his current progression is what they'd be expecting. Ross hinted at him coming in after the bye at the earliest. So a few more games at Peel, progressing each time he could very well make the cut in that game. Good news is we get to watch him and hopefully Yarran as well next week on the TV.

APENESS!

Get around him! 2 goals in his first proper WAFL game. I reckon he will be in after the bye.

Apeness as our power forward and pinch hitting for Sandi. Taberner as our roaming CHF allowing the great man to play as our third tall.

Where does that leave Mayne and Clarke? In the wafl, hopefully.

Maynes form has picked up a bit the last couple rounds but needs a big few more games to guarantee his spot. Especially with Apeness building and Yaz back soon (for Peel, anyway). That leaves tabs, Mayne, Pav, Yarran, Ape and maybe backup ruck fighting it out for spots as talls in the forward 50. Versatility is key here and ape being able to ruck, tabs being able to roam up the ground a bit, pav still being handy in the middle and maynes pressure being big pluses in their favour for selection

Be interesting when all are likely fit and firing in a few weeks time to see who gets in, who stays and who goes

I reckon Yarran is going to have to do an awful lot before he knocks Mayne out. I know Mayne's had a terrible start to the year, but as you say, his recent form has been good. His work rate is massive and he hasn't done too much wrong really.
