Absolutely Phoenix, we wouldn't expect to be any better than 2-2 playing these sides in the season proper...what's to get upset about?

The only thing that will make me cranky about today is if Tambling has injured his shoulder. Won't do the kid's confidence in his body any good and we need him to take another step this year.

4 practise matches.

2 wins, 2 loses.

Fine by me. :thumbsu:
And that sums up the year we are about to have. Going to win some we have no right to and lose some we never should, going to frustrate, tease and disappoint beyond belief. And at the end of it all, do exactly what should be expected of a team of kids growing and learning all about succeeding at the highest level. Hang on for the ride.

Agreed, Geelong>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. 15 other sides in the comp. If the Cats stay fit and play well, 15 teams are making up the numbers this season. Another Brisbane is in the making with them.

2-2 might sound good but our wins are against the demons and swans

demons are 0-3 this pre-season and when has sydney ever turned up for practice matches?

we had real tests against geelong and saints and failed dismally

its going to be another shit season imo not suprisingly

We were in your exact position at the end of 2006. maybe not on the ladder, but we thought we were never gonna see a premiership and we wanted Bomber sacked, and an overhaul of our players. Given the time, your players will gel and start winning loads of games, just like us in '07.
This was a practice match, but we beat Melbourne by the same margin 3 weeks ago, and Brisbane last week, and yet today we fielded our strongest side.
As cocky as this may sound, there are gonna be a lot of teams getting smashed by Geelong this year, and all today can do is make your younger players stronger and better for it.
I see so much upside with Richmond it's not funny.

the only way is up, they cant get much lower they will be below sea level!:D

We've had a super pre season. We've played 3 of the best sides and one average one. I can't think of better hit outs for our guys than playing Geelong, Saints and Sydney even the Dee's.

We'll be cherry ripe for round 1

Go Tigers

The Saints and Cats will be top 4 this year. No doubt.

So Im not surprised we got beat in those games.

The point is we won the games we should have won.

Thats all we can ask for from a team that clearly still isnt up to the task.

Here is my perspective, right now we are contenders for another bottom 4 finish. The only teams that I can confidently say we are on par with are Melbourne, Carlton and the Dogs.

Yup so thats 6 wins since the Magpies are our bitches. Scrape another 2 or 3 against the Bombers, Freo in Melbourne and perhaps Brisbane and Terry survives.

Its going to be a hard slog year and the media will be unrelenting on him but if we play decently and turn up on a few games that are slightly against us I think we can get to 8 wins.

Will that be enough . . . ?

Every year I try to give the club a fresh slate....Round 1, give everyone a fair break.....watch, wait and see.
(We couldn't be as bad as last year....could we?)

If the club comes out better this year and young guys are developing, then that's great for the RFC, and I was wrong and the club and other people were correct.

If we have a year where we don't progress.....I'm going to be pissed, like many other people.

We all talk about doing the honorable thing and keeping our end of a contract, but believe me, Terry knows (and he has told people within the club) that if we don't progress this season.....he's going to get the bullet. And he will. The groundswell against him alone will have removed.

I don't care about the pre-season, I don't care if Terry's coaching or a kindergarten kid is (I don't care if Richo's is kicking goals for Richmond or some drunken bum we kidnap from a city lane)......as long as the RFC progresses in season 2008.

Now that's perspective.

Cheers

It is not necessarily 6 wins, there is no guarantee that we will beat each of those sides twice, as bad as it sounds right now I would be happy to get a 50-50 spilt in games against those sides this year.

I agree with Deliberate though it is not all about wins and losses this year, seeing the side improve in all areas is what I am more interested in seeing because then the wins and losses will take care of themselves. If we start hitting targets, choosing the right options, play attacking footy instead of pissfarting around with chip chip shit then we might start to get the results we are all after in terms of wins and losses. Until then I am strapping in for another long Richmond season but unlike previous years I wont be going in thinking we are better than we really are.

Didn't your signature predict finals before? And then you changed it to 8th to 12th? And now it's 13th to 16th? You seem to put a lot of stock in pre-season performances and change your predictions with the wind.

Unless I have the wrong guy in which case I apologise.

Let me clarify it for you, have been a long suffering Richmond fan and each off season I hope and pray that this is the season that it all turns around, this year ws no different but as events have unfolded over the last month the picture has become clearer and clearer, we are not going to be a challenger this year. Sad I know but it is the truth. Sorry if some posters don't like it but give me some evidence to suggest anything different instead of a view through rose colored glasses.

I don't think any sane person had us pegged as a contender. I thought you were spot on with the last prediction (8th to 12th). Eighth would be a great result and would depend on a good run with injuries and some early wins to boost confidence. I'd be very disappointed with 13-16th unless we had yet another injury-ridden season.
