PES, stuck in the shadow of the FIFA series for many years now. With it's lack of licensing in terms of teams resulting in team names like Man Blue and MD White, FIFA has dominated in terms of popularity.

On the other hand, PES features many more international teams than FIFA, making it the go to game for world cup runs with lower ranked teams. And that's why I'm here, to lead a nation which would not normally be considered a powerhouse all the way to the World Cup title.

As you've seen in the title, I'm going to play as the DPRK (North Korea), one of the countries not represented in FIFA. So without any further blabbering, here are the groups...

MATCHDAY 1

Sharpshooter Paredes leads Chile to win over DPRK

North Korea came into this match knowing Chile would be a tough opponent. With their best efforts put into a domination of the South Americans stats-wise, they left the stadium with nothing to show for it, losing 3-1.

Where the DPRK went wrong with their game is their inability to create scoring opportunities, which should've been easy to do with their 67% possession and 150 passes. This was clearly not the case however, with the Koreans taking 6 shots, with two on target.
Comparing this to the three Chilean shots, all converted into goals, North Korea is sure to learn from this game going forward against the USA and France.

MATCHDAY 2

United States leave North Korea's World Cup hopes lost

Despite all best efforts the DPRK has lost yet another game, this time to the United States. The Americans keep their World Cup dream alive after a disastrous 4-0 loss to France. The same cannot be said for North Korea, who conceded a goal in the 22nd minute to be eliminated from the tournament. There is still one game left for the Koreans, against group favorites France. While there is nothing to play for but pride for North Korea, they are sure to put in a top performance against their final opponent.

Again, while leading in most statistics, North Korea could not put together enough goals to topple America. With only one shot on target finishing has shown to be a weak point in the Korean team, while passing is definitely an asset to be utilised, with 103 passes compared to 69 American passes. Overall it had been seen as a tough group for the DPRK, and so far the bookies are not wrong. Hopefully the Koreans can score a win in their final game of this World Cup.

MATCHDAY 3

Late French surge sends North Korea home

That's it for their season, North Korea has been officially eliminated from the World Cup. While the game and thus the tournament is over for the DPRK, there are many positives to take out of their run. Their passing has been superb this year, being the top passing team in all groups. The same can be said about possession averaging 58% per game, third in the group stage.

It was a disappointing season for the North Koreans, however they showed that while in form, they are a force to be reckoned with. They will surely be aiming for a spot in the final 16 in the next edition of the world cup.
