Peter Bell retires

I'll never forget how disapointed I was the first time I saw him in a freo jumper.
Either way a champion of both clubs. Lovely bloke as well.

Great story that one - must ask Pagan if it is true. This is sort of how it went. You need to know Bell was an orphan who was adopted as a baby from Korea.

A North player was tasked to pick up Dinga but Dinga was having a field day. The runner went and asked him why he wasn't on Bell. He said he couldn't find him. He went back and told Pagan who roared down the phone - go and tell him that two nuns could find him as a baby on the side of the road somewhere in Korea and you can't find him on the MCG? He's the only 4 foot asian on the ground.

I've heard the story plenty of times but will see Pagan at the Collingwood game - I'll ask him if its true.

great career tinka all the best in retirement

What a champion ding dong was. Was gonna be captain after duck but after 00 took the bnf and went home. Gets along well with boom shagg and simmo still. Was that close to the norm smith with shaggz i remember in the 99 granny he had the chance to kick his 5th and he jus missed the snap on goal to the ryt. He was burning. Shannon let him know all about it.

Was gutted when i heard he was going back to Freo. Still, a champion bloke and an awesome player. BOG in the 99' GF in my opinion. Good luck in retirement.

I heard a different version.
It was when Bell was still playing for the Roos and Pagan sent the runner out to deliver a message to him. When Pagan realised that the runner returned to the bench and the message hadn't been delivered he asked why. The runner said that he couldn't find Bell, then Pagan let fly with the line about 2 missionaries finding him on the side of the road in Korea.

I remember the first time I met any NMFC players, it was Bell and Shagga out in Adelaide enjoying themselves. Both were extremely kind but also god-damn hilarious and kept making jokes about each others *****.

Hilarious.

Same punch line - great story. I'll ask him at the Collingwood game and get the definitive version. Now I think about it you may be right.

also great mates with arch aswell flew over to be at his 300th game

I will never forgive him for returning to that pathetic excuse for a football club that thought he wasn't up to it.

However, full credit to a bloke who was never quick enough, never tall enough, never able to kick it 50+ but still managed to play near on 300 games, 2 Premierships, AA, etc etc. A mammoth achievement.

Really clever bloke too. He will be fine post-football in terms of a vocation.

I believe a succession plan is in place for him to take over as CEO of the Dockers in the not-too-distant.

Also like to echo the positive sentiments contained in this thread. :thumbsu:

Congratulations on a wonderful career Belly. Never forget the Redback after the 99 Granny, belly handing around his premiership medallion to the odd person to wear for a while.

Was angry that we gave him away. All the best in the future.
