What I thought was great was the huge advert in the weekends paper from Chicken Treat and Perth Glory, both fully supporting the bid for a Super 14 side in Perth.

It's unfortunate that you get some meat heads (such as shane on dockerland) who can't accept other sandgropers rights to enjoy another code.

Fair call, as long as you don't confuse people like that with people who simply don't enjoy the game.

I didn't really care either way until the government said it would spend another $25m on a stadium used by a soccer team that couldn't even fill it in a premiership year, and a rugby team that doesn't exist in a city with very little history of supporting rugby for more than 1 game a year.

Now i'd prefer it went to Melbourne. Not because I don't accept other people's right to enjoy rugby, but i'd rather the $25m spent on something useful.

Here, Here.
Maybe they could give the money to the Subi expansion, cause at this stage subi needs the money for expansion more than Perth Oval.

As AFL followers, I can see why you would automatically think about how this money could be used for AFL. And in your eyes it would be better spent there! Gallop is a West Coast supporter, so don't you think he'd do that if he could? But ... The state government has already thrown a heap of money into the AFL in the past, and I'm sure this will continue in the future.

The redevelopment of this ground will specifically make this ground suitable for International Rugby and Soccer. It's great for the Glory in the new formed national league as well as Perths Super 14 bid. I'm not a huge soccer fan, but I can't deny the huge number of tax payers out there that are!

This has the potential to put Perth on the world stage in an international competition! This is fantastic for Perth and fantastic for Western Australia. It's great for Rugbys growth in Australia and our own tourism. Try to look at the big picture here kiddies.

The 25mil is well spent in terms of the international exposure it would give WA.

As much as we believe otherwise, the goverment decision makers aren't that stupid and they would have conducted a cost benefit analysis on investing 25mil.

What international exposure? Who would care about some tinpot little stadium in Perth building a new grandstand? It's not like it's Wembley stadium.

You've got a stadium there that can seat about 18,000. This has shown to be more than enough for the Glory. Where is the demand for any expansion? Oh yeah, that's right, a planned rugby team in a city with virtually no history of attending state level rugby that will play there 7 times a year. I'm sure the first few games any WA rugby team plays will draw good crowds, but where's the guarantee that those crowds will hang around, especially if WA is a sh*te team. Local rugby draws family and friends only, so you have to convert a hell of a lot of people into regular rugby followers. A bloody big committment to spend $25m on essentially a hunch that people might show up.

And you're kidding yourself if you think internationals will be played there. They will continue to be played at Subiaco, as it holds over 40,000.

And governments always make the right decisions, particularly regarding sporting stadiums. The ACT government just about got toppled because of the money they spent on Bruce Stadium which is rarely filled, what happened in SA with the Hindmarsh stadium from memory got a Minister sacked, and the money spent on Lang Park by the Queensland government has proven to be an abominable waste. A quarter of a billion dollars on a stadium that's filled fewer times per year than fingers on your hand!

Gallop has done a deadset pork barrel, there has been no genuine cost benefit analysis done or anything like that. How can you? No-one has any idea what sort of support rugby is capable of attracting week in week out. If they get the go ahead and they prove over a couple of years that the demand is there for more seats, then by all means have a look at it. But at this stage, the demand is most certainly not there.
