Petterd up forward

Had the lead up job which is probably a bit easier. I certainly wouldn't want to have been Bate. But he contested beautiful when sometimes out numbered 3-1. When he is playing the same role as Sylvia I'd have him ahead everyday of the week. Nice goal as well!

My god we need to leave some forwards at home though, this one or two man forward line isn't working. We have to back our backline in, and make our midfield work end to end instead of just sit in the middle of the ground.

I agree.

I've always had a feeling that Petterd should be played up forward, he's a smart decision maker and pretty fast with the hands, so a good move that showed today.

Great game by Ricky today. Seems comfortable as a leading forward. Although he can'tbe expected to play the role of a power forward. Neither can Bate really, but we don't have many options.

My preferred forward line set up:

Bate - Miller
Jetta*
Petterd - Sylvia - Johnson - Davey

Gives us two marking options in the goalsquare. A small crumbing rover in front of them, about 35m out. And then plenty of leading options off half forward. Petterd and Sylvia can both take marks on the lead. Johnson provides the big bodied target around 50-70m out, and Davey gives us the run and forward pressure that we need.

* Jetta can be replaced by Wonaeamirri, Davey, Bennell, etc...

Sorry. I think that's a terrible half forward line demonfan. We need miller across half forward. Johnson is big but has done nothing as a forward. Our half forward line didn't exist today. Put newton and bate in the goal square with petterd close by. Miller at centre half where he plays his best footy. Wonna in for jetta. He tries hard and I'm not writing him off but his kicking was disgusting today.

I just feel we need a big body in the forward line, and at the moment, Miller is our best option. Whereas on the half forward line, quick players with good hands is more important.

Miller has shown he is very comfortable at half forward, but he doesn't kick enough goals from there. As proven in 2008, when he plays closer to home, he gets the opportunity to put his accurate goalkicking to good use.

Ideally, we'd have Robertson in the square, which means either Bate or Miller can move up to half forward. In the future, we'll have Watts to play that role. But Robertson is injured, and Watts isn't in consideration at the moment. So we have to make do with what we've got.

As for Jetta/Wonaeamirri, that's only temporary as one is currently injured. Once Wonaeamirri is fit, I'd chuck him straight back in.

I loved his game but it is also a reflection of our forwardline that our best player was a guy in his first game up forward.

Gee I can't wait for Robbo to get back out there.

To be fair to the whole forwardline the delivery was shit (Again).

He kicked 0.2 today.

Miller along Half-Forward is best i think.

Also that set-up is a 7 man forward line. Where are we pulling the other player from?

Hopefully not down back seeing as the ball spends half its time down there.

Petterd was great today.

I really liked him today & think he has shown the ability to do what he is asked. He wants to play football at the highest level & showed us he will do what is required to get there.

If he is our saviour we will be waiting a long time b4 we win a game, we need someone who can kick 3 every game NOW!

I dont think we've got that person.

There'll be the odd occasion that somone might do it e.g Bate, Petterd, Miller, Wonna etc, but not on a consistent basis.

We'll just have to rely on everyone to maybe bob up with 1 or so and our midfield to snag a couple. And that, most weeks, will result in losses

He kicked 0.2 today.

That's true, but last year he kicked impressively with 26 goals and 9 behinds. Also interesting to note that he took more marks and kicked more goals last season (spending most of it inside 50) than in any other season (most on the half forward line).

And re: 7 man forward line. Didn't realise. I suppose you could just move Davey to the wing.

Was it just me or did Ricky Petterd not have an opponent for large portions of the 2nd and 3rd quarter? We should have used him more to make the north defence more accountable.

And also on our goalkicking saviour, he may be underdone but his name starts with 'L' and ends in 'iam Jurrah'

Petterd did a great job:thumbsu: put bate and miller to shame.

we had a huge problem with our forward line last year and this year looks like it might be the same. moving petterd up forward was a good move by bailey. we should be training some of our other defenders to play up forward so we have some options there. with bell, whelan, wheatley and martin still to come back in the team some of our hard working defenders are going to be dropped when they dont deserve to be

He did look good, were gonna struggle this year up forward you could see we lacked a big forward, marking target. We moved the ball pretty well to often tho we bombed the ball into the 50 and left bate 2 on 1, we should try resting Johnson in the goal sqaure.

I notice on our kick ins north used a "full ground zone" so their full back line was on our half forward line this probably why petterd found a lot of space.

But we managed to break the lines few times and bate had space but we kicked the ball to high and he was swamped, i would like to see him leading at the ball more, to often yesterday he was back pedaling towards goal.

Imagine that duo coming out of the square.

I cant wait for 2011.

We have got too many backmen as well. With Wheatley and Wheels still to come back along with Martin as an option, it going to be tough for everyone to hold a spot.
I can think of anyone yesterday who should be dropped from our backs.

Wheatley up forward maybe??

Plenty of room for Wheatley in the Casey backline. Seriously though Wheatley can barely defend so he is more of an outside midfielder, which puts him up against Bruce, Green, Morton and Buckley. On Bucks game on Sunday he might get ahead of him, but I wouldn't play him. Might have to bide his time for the injuries that will unfortunately come during a season.
