No it was the Adelaide Lighting coach Chris Lucas who was sacked because Lightning owner Vince Marino wanted his daughter in the starting line-up.

Lightning without coaches after clash with owner

The head coach of the Adelaide Lightning basketball team has been sacked and his two assistants have walked out after clashing with Lightning's owner Vince Marino about his daughter's position in the team.

Coach Chris Lucas had just had his three-year contract renewed.

He says he was sacked in a meeting today when he tried to discuss Mr Marino's daughter, Angela.

"When an owner of an organisation tells me yesterday who's starting in the team and I don't agree with that, that's basically where it's stemmed from," he said.

"A coach has to be able to coach the way he wants to coach and that's what you're employed to do.

"I feel that that was an unworkable situation.

Assistant coaches Scott Ninnis and Marcus Wong have also walked out, leaving the team with no coach in the second week of the season.

"He (Marino), within a three minute process, put a blank cheque on the table, signed the cheque and said 'you're gone', offered the assistant coach the position and he stated that it was the most disgraceful thing he's ever seen in basketball and he walked out as well," Lucas said.

Mr Marino has been unavailable for comment.

thanks mate,
i forgot ninnis wasnt at the sixers anymore.
must have just heard his name, and assumed it was smyth

by the way, this marino bloke sounds like an absolute nob.
joke of a situation

It's the most pathetic thing i have ever heard. his daughter basically went a complained after a review session, didn't even warm down and all of a sudden he's sacked. Pathetic.

this happens a bit in international soccer (or used to). i remember back in korea-japan WC the saudi's allegedly played the sheik's son because the sheik wanted to.

anyway, the bird in question

Well, she is. She played for them in the Olympics.

Seems everyone except for the players have walked out, 9 out of 10 of the players(obviously) have rung Lewis to support him too. Walk out girls and leave "little miss moneybags" to play with a ball on her bastard own!!!

She started for NZ at the Commonwealth Games. She can play, although I don't know how she goes in the WNBL.

First season for the Capitals she averaged around 35-40mpg and the Caps finished outside the playoffs. Next season she averaged around 5-10mpg and the Caps won the title.

Two words

Lauren Jackson

Missed 16 of the Capitals 24 games (Caps won on 4 of those 8 games). She wasn't the big influence you make her out to be, although at finals time she (with great support from Abrams) was unstoppable.

Actually... i have a question for you all

If Phil & Steve were to get the boot from the Sixers, who do you think would be our next coach?

I dont want it to happen.. Phils given a solid and successful 10 years. Missed the playoffs once, which was a South Australian basketball problem, not Phils.

If it were to happen I think Scott Ninnis would be front of the line

That was my tip as well but Ian Stacker (please god no) would be an option or I guess Cal Burton may get a look in
