Hey I am just wondering how strict Optus and Telstra are with offering contracts. I owe about 900 to another company I left that company because of its crap service and the phone I got was faulty so I left it and that was about 6-8 months ago. Just wondering if I will have bad credit, thats the only debt I am in.

Foxtel approved me 6 months ago when I owed that amount but because this is a phone company they might not.

Thank you all. Have a lovely day :D :D

Firstly you may want to do a credit check to see if they have registered a default against your name, if they have you may struggle to get finance of any kind, not just a phone contract, therefore it is very important to protect your credit rating.
you can apply for a copy at veda advantage http://www.veda.com.au/personal/my-credit-file.dot

Secondly, if you ditched the previous company because the phone didn't work and the service was crap, you may want to initiate a complaint with the telecommunications ombudsman, if they take on your case, and they find that you are not at fault and the phone company has acted inappropriately you may be able to get the debt written off.

I had a similar situation recently, and they are obliged to sell you a phone that works, and continues to work with ordinary wear and tear for the duration of the contract. So you may have options.

Foxtel might not do a credit check if you pay in advance, the reason being if you don't pay they just cut you off but you don't owe them any money. But to be honest I am not sure how Foxtel works though.
