Which telco you referring to?
Optus / Vodaphone. Trying to help my GF sign up to a cheaper phone plan - the moo in Optus saying, oh its worth paying the $13 a month in handset payments because its just worth it - plain unhelpful.

Their sim only deals look far far cheaper than any of the main carriers (Teltra, optus, voda etc). Whats their service like?
No worse and I'd like to think better simply because the minute I'm not happy with TPG I'll take my business to Kogan or Amaysim or Vaya or Red Bull or Liveconnected or any one of the other hundred similar options.

As for the coverage it is the same as the optus network (as all the others except Kogan are).

TPG, Kogan, Amaysim all offer fairly cheap deals with high quotas... Usually either resell Optus or Telstra anyway.

Yeah no problems, was getting 3G and phone reception on holiday when family members on much more expensive deals were not. Pay $18 a month, don't use heaps of internet but I do a bit every day and never go over my limit, which I think is 2gb. And yeah the lack of a contract is also a bonus.

Telstra shops are the worst, particularly in regional centres. You could look lost for half an hour in the store which is the size of a shoebox and not get any customer assistance unless you go to the main counter and speak gibberish which makes no sense to the poor bloke who's just processed an overdue phone bill. The capital city stores are slightly better.

Probably one for the 'things you don't understand' thread, but why are there so many phone stores?

My local centre has 9 of them, plus a JB Hifi, an Apple Store and a Dick Smith (as well as K-Mart, Myer, David Jones, Coles, Woolworths which all have/had something the way of phones).

How do so many of these shops stay in business when there is minimal differentiation between them and retail space is so expensive?

Is this Garden City? Don't they have 2 vodafone stores?? What is the purpose. Then they have Crazy Johns, Mo's, Allphones (?) etc. It's just plain unnecessary. There should just be one store per major provider.

At the little section of mall at the Coles/Woolworths end if you walk out of a phone shop the only thing stopping you from facing another phone shop will be a phone counter in the middle of the mall.

I vote less phone shops and more of those weird shops that sell* crystals, candles, dragons and 'magic happens' stickers.

*have never seen anyone buy something from one of these shops
