It would round off a very good draft for me if we picked up this kid. If we take that tall - Talia or Black, Sumner would be the player I would love to get with our second pick.

Great sidestep and pace, booming left foot kick, great attack on the man (tackling). Stood out when watching the carnivals and after reviewing his you tubes again would think he would be that running half back we desperately need.

Thoughts?

looks like a really solid player

can find the footy and has great vision

only negative thing was his disposal was really poor at times, but i suppose we could work at it

could we turn him into a sweeper??

Looks like a Gun! only thing that really needs improving looks like his disposal at times. Has a bit of Andrew Mcleod or Peter Burgoyne about him:)

Can kick the ball a long way, just the decision making sometimes, but that can be worked on. Is a natrual half back/ sweeper.

I know this is a big call but he is likened to Cyril Rioli with his lateral movement and speed. I would say a quicker version of Bachar Houli.

Is this where we come to grief. Complaining down the track a la Tex that kicking will always be an issue and we should have got someone with better foot skills? I know Daniel Rich is more a freak than the norm but I'd love us to include "naturally gifted disposal with hand and foot" as a genuine part of our selection pre-requisite.

Sumner's kicking is fine Thy....not elite, but he has a lovely left foot. Right needs a bit of work but you know what they say about left footers.

Im with thy - I don't want anyone that needs a little work on their kicking
I've been watching us butcher the ball for the last 7-8 yrs and it's killed me.

Most left footers only use their right leg for balance anyway. Like you, I wouldn't be too worried about his right.

I know its difficult, but you can't ruminate only about the good times .....like that perfectly weighted Yarran handball :)

I haven't seen a lot of Sumner, but he does have some pace and he does have the baulk and evasive turn of speed and change of direction down pat. He can play any midfield role, but he will have the size issue. He is very light and only 175 cm tall. He would get smashed in 2010.
There is plenty to work with and he can mind a man. Just don't expect him to hold all of his tackles yet: he doesn't have the muscle mass
