\ IMO I think Cloke is overated

Well if Cloke is Overrated then I say Franklin is so far Overrated it's not Funny. He just plays well when he gets good Delivery on his Chest and can't take a mark overhead

I guess Cloke is overrated if the people around you are saying he's one of the greatest forwards to play the game. It depends on what you keep hearing. From what I've read and heard about him it's pretty deserving of the year he had.

Really?? How do you come to that conclusion....??? Seriously, you dont remember the 2011 PF classic?? Maybe just maybe, as you claim that the PF was one of your worst games for the season, that Hawthorn played a game that made you guys look average.

We weren't in great form prior & post the match. Only Tarrant, Swan, Ball & Cloke had games where they were at their normal point, that hasn't as much to do with Hawthorn (which had to alter their gameplan drastically) as much as Collingwood.

It was a great contest, but it wasn't a classic game. Leigh Matthews summed it well after the game, he generally thought Hawthorn had played to 95% of it's capability and Collingwood were operating towards half rat power.

My thoughts are somewhat immersed in not the NAB Cup but this mouth watering round one fixture vs the "Horribles".

I have already contributed to this thread but as surely as day turns into night - things happen and players either put their hands up/sadly stumble due to injury or otherwise. It will change again - yet this is where i feel the two sides are at.

Recently the Hawks had an intra-club in Tassie - from what i can gather this could be their likely lineup come rd 1 - less than 6 weeks away now!

From the look of their depth we can see that the Hawks will really be a massive challenge this year - and why they can absorb injuries easier than us.
In contrast we only boast 27 real strong candidates at AFL level - we have lost key players and with some of our older blokes already showing signs of wear and tear - hopefully the younger ones wont be asked to do too much this year.

Players such as Roughead, obviously, and possibly the likes of Ellis and Young will press strongly for their claims in the 21/22.

Looking forward to the game - two sides both excel in gathering the footy, with last year the Pies were better in sharing the scoring load, tackling and contested possession. Hawks willbe wanting to even the ledger and not be quite so 2 dimensional up forward ie Buddy and Cyril.

We will feel the loss of Krak and Neon, not only for their uncanny skills but the ability in winning contested ball, Krak provided 35 goals last year. The Hawks were statistically down in that area compared to Cats also. The intimidation, and rucking of Leroy Brown (23 goals) is also of significant concern as to who can provide this extra presence on field.

We need to remind the Hawks that we are still ahead of them and i'm sure they'll come out with the same idea - Geelong set that precedence in round 8 last year. Bucks will want to use this game for making a real statement against a very strong possibly the main contender for Geelong's spot?

Look i know we have our injury concerns at the moment before a ball is even bounced but Crak,Dids,Johnson and jamie Elliot will be available by round one or two when the real stuff starts.

The hawks could be a real threat this year, but injuries can put a halt to a season very quickly.I know that Gibson is carrying some sort of injury,Roughead only needs to go down in a hard way and the hawks are thinking of playing Buddy a lot more in the midfield this year, and where do most injuries happen in the midfield,so imagine if the hawks lost buddy long term..............Season over !

If all fit

b Johnson Tarrant Brown

hb Shaw Reid O`Brien

C Thomas Ball Sidebottom

hf Fasolo Cloke Wellingham

F Krakouer Dawes Beams

R Jolly Pendlebury Swan

I/C Macaffer Clarke Wood

S Goldsack

Subject to fitness/availability

Johnson > Young
Brown> Toovey
Krakouer>Blair

Emerg; Didak Maxwell Buckley

Assuming we're legitimately in the hunt this year (if injuries don't get us again), then Hawks and Cats are still the threat. This assumes losing Ottens doesn't hurt the Cats as much as I think it will.

Round 1 should be an amazing game this year.

Many forget 2 of the last 3 clashes between Collingwood and Hawthorn have been 3 point thrillers.

Something you could expect. If Franklin is played in the midfield wouldn't be surprised to see Shoenmakers play forward until Roughead's return.

Josh Gibson, Stephen Gilham, Brent Guerra
Grant Birchall, Ben Stratton, Cyril Rioli

Isaac Smith, Sam Mitchell, Lance Franklin
Max Bailey, Luke Hodge, Jordan Lewis

Shaun Burgoyne, Ryan Shoenmakers, Luke Bruest
Jack Gunston, David Hale, Paul Puopolo

Tom Murphy, Liam Shiels, Brad Sewell, Brendan Whitecross (S)

***Roughead still injured

Suckling, Bruce, Osborne, Savage, Cheney, Bateman, Young, Ellis pretty stiff.

Good post here and yes our depth is probably the best it has been in a long time, however last year we only had about 27 or so (similiar to you this year) that could be up to AFL Standard. We then found Shiels, Savage, Smith, Puopolo, Suckling and Breust could all perform well at AFL level. Which means going into this season we have 30-32 or so that we could rely on (hopefully).

Collingwood as you say may only have 27 or so atm, but I bet by the end of the year you will have unearthed some young guns and be at the same depth level. I'm sure Bucks will wanna give your younger players every opportunity this year and like a few surprised us last year, you will have a few surprise you.

I think for the next couple of years, our 2 clubs will be the standouts.

Also Cloke is definitely not overrated. He has a huge year last year and I expect another AA year from the big fella. Is a gun.

IMO, Franklin will be forward which means Schoenmakers will be CHB and Rioli will be forward.

Gilham and Roughead won't be ready for round 1. Gilham is a maybe, Roughy is a no chance.
