The Detroit Pistons acquired Derrick Coleman and Amal McCaskill from the Philadelphia 76ers in a trade Wednesday for Corliss Williamson. Essentially, Philadelphia got rid of a player it didn’t want, and NBA champion Detroit picked up considerable salary-cap space for the future.

DC's 37, but will be a handy backup centre behind Big Ben and Darko. He should be able to teach Darko a thing or two as well. .

Yeah, how to get fat, how to sit on the perimeter and avoid physical contact, and how to sulk on a daily basis. ;)

BTW This was mentioned a couple of days ago.

I didnt really like this move for the Pistons part, sure they get rid of a long term contract, but every team needs a 6th man, and Corliss is one of the better ones. Im not sure McDyess can be as reliable as Corliss off the bench, especially with his injuries

I don't mind the move. The Pistons suffered defensively when Corliss went into the game and he was a black hole in the pivot on offense. Now I'm not saying that DC will be any better, but I'll be interested to see how 'Dice does.

Besides I believe that after next season that one of Rip or Chauncey comes out of contract and the season after that Big Ben comes out of contract. Both will want to be paid, because they're on bargain basement salaries for the NBA so clearing cap room now will make it easier to hold onto these two over the next couple of season. All we need to do is offload a couple of Campbell/McDyess/Coleman/Ham for cap space.

Chauncey - Contracted through 2007-08 at about $6M US per year.
Rip - Contracted through 2009-10 at about $9M US per year.
Big Ben - Contracted through 2005-06 at about $6M US per year.

Thanks for that P&P. There you go, Joe clears some cap space so when Ben comes out of contract he can be accomodated with something big. What about Chauncey?
