Quick query. i've heard a few theories. I own a 42 inch LG plasma. My old man reckons you shouldn't turn them on for say, 30 mins then turn off, then turn back on however long later as it can screw with the TV. Am i better off to just let it go if i plan on coming back to watch something or should i turn it off when i leave the room? Regards!

Fine to turn them on and off, make sure you have plenty clearance as they run hot. One thing to note, if you have a static screen up (i.e dvd menu or game) as you can get the burn in effect.

start-up is the worst thing for an electronic piece of equipment whether it be a TV, computer, a light even... as there is a current spike on start-up. So technically the less switching you do the better. However electronic equipment is designed to be switched on and off, so normal use switching won't really have an adverse effect on your equipment. 30 mins is a long time anyway. I'd leave the TV on for 30 mins then come back and watch it personally, but a tree hugging hippy might like to turn it off then back on.
