Each year the Carlton Football Club allows individuals, groups or companies to have the opportunity to be guernsey sponsors for every player on our list, either at Player Sponsor level or Player Partner level.

History

Here on BigFooty, we have been sponsoring Matthew Kreuzer since his first season in 2008.

The original sponsorship 'foot in the door' occurred as part of the www.bluebaggers.com site (previously known as TheBlueView), and due to that association in sponsoring previous players such as Karl Norman and Josh Kennedy, the site was offered the opportunity to sponsor Kreuzer when Kennedy was traded to West Coast.

Due to my association with both sites, I originally opened up the offer to contribute to the sponsorship to BigFooty posters as well. As bluebaggers has evolved into a smaller boutique site, contributions now come predominantly from BigFooty contributors. As bluebaggers is hosted by BigFooty, the link between the two remains.

Cost

Carlton Football Club determines its costs on a yearly basis. Players Partners cost more than Player Sponsors, Senior list players cost more than rookies, and there is a premium if you sponsor a player that is in the top 10 of the club's best and fairest in the previous season.

How to get involved

A thread is started and stickied on the main Carlton board around October/November each year, and posters are invited to express their interest. A private message is sent out to each interested poster detailing how to forward monies.

Contributions of $50 to $99 will earn you a BigFooty Gold subscription for 12 months. Contribute $100 or more and 12 months Platinum BFSC is yours. All contributors will receive a sponsorship badge under their username.

Where does the money go?

It goes to the club, not the player as the name suggests. There may be opportunity to sponsor another player if we have left over monies, or as we have done in the past with consultation from contributors, we have purchased extra memberships in the name of the Starlight Foundation, so that families with a child with an illness, can also experience the wonder of watching the Mighty Blues.

Anything else?

Each year the club offers two free tickets to its prestigious Guernsey Presentation Dinner where two lucky contributors will get to sit at a table with the sponsored player and get to meet prominent Carlton identities and indulge in fabulous food, drink and entertainment.

Other things offered in the past have been free memberships (these were always donated to Starlight Foundation), match worn guernseys, and invites to a pre-season cocktail party. Extra items are subject to change though but we generally try to get everybody involved when we become aware of the extras.
