At the match today, I noticed a rather low amount of players that actually backed themselves kicking for goal. I think I saw at least 5 wasted opportunities whilst close to goal, and a few more against Carlton.

Also noticed that we make way too many handballs whilst inside 50, so instead of taking a shot, or getting closer to goal, we move further away and usually end up missing the shot at goal, or losing possession.

Who else noticed this?

Kicking behinds is a vicious cycle in my opinion. A few early points and it gives the team the yips. They know they have kicked too many behinds and are thinking about it, hence no one wants to take the shot and they waste opportunities. When you are ten goals up you slot everything inside the 50. Disappointing seeing players dishing off handballs 40m out from the goals cause they don't want to be the one to kick another point.

Get off Prismall's back.

Have you seen Geelong play? They try and get the ball as close to goal AS POSSIBLE.

Prismall was waiting for players to work hard into the space inside 50. Did anyone do it? No.

He was fantastic, particularly his bullet pass to Lloyd in the first term.

Welcome to round 1-13....

Davey and Prismall are major offenders and we cannot win enough games of football to play finals when players won't stand up and take on the responsibility of having the shot for goal.
Davey?
He almost certainly backs himself, it's just that he doesnt have that much time to kick the ball before he gets tackled.
Use our second goal as an example.
Instead of attempting a banana from the side, he turns straight into the goal and slots it in.

yeh Prismall was great but he had 2 clear opps inside 50 to kick for goal & instead we get a pass which ends up turnedover - kick the goal ffs!!

He took a mark 45m directly in front and chose to handpass it off, to a player who then found trouble and then it was just a mess.

fair enough, he doesn't look like one of the main culprits though.

Jeez was that annoying, to top it off i was surrounded by a kid that always screams "Go ____(essendon player who has the ball)" Apparently Ryder is Dempsey now. behind me were a bunch of girls yelling a bunch of idiotic innuendo's, whilst mistaking Davis for Dick.

Hopefully we still make finals though.

can't accuse Fletch of not backing himself. Almost creamed my pants seeing his 70m bomb from just inside the centre square.

Yep. A side like Collingwood close too quickly in defence. The shot is there to take, take it.

Also thought players didn't run hard enough for each other. The tight chasing of Collingwood players made a lot of our passes by foot look slow and dinky because we didn't run hard enough into space to receive a flatter or sharper pass. Too slow to push top 4 sides. Lack of size in midfield was telling. Really needed Watson crunching his way through to win the ball. Reimers kicking wasn't as good as it has been. Don't know whether Lloydy queried the umpires on their decisions. I didn't see it. Isn't that what Captains do? Disappointed in our lack of intensity and some poor skills generally.

I was hoping for a goal also.
Infact, whenever Fletcher is ever nearing the other side of the ground, i always yell "TAKE A SHOT"

:)

Me too. At one stage Leigh pointed out that the Pies had 17 players in their defensive fifty, and we tried maybe three times to penetrate rather than dish off to someone like Fletch to try and kick over. Very frustrating.
