WAFL club Peel Thunder has a Colts (Under 19s) player on its list named Jack Sears, who was recruited from Peel League team South Mandurah Falcons. I don't know anything about young Jack's ability and future career aspirations in football, but if he does make it as a senior WAFL player or into the AFL, his date of birth will make him stand out in the Football Record as if it was printed in bold, Size 26 font - 11th September 2001. There is also kind of an irony in his name. New York's Twin Towers when completed in the 1970s were the tallest buildings in the world until surpassed by a new skyscraper in Chicago - the Sears Tower.

Whether or not Peel's Jack Sears or another young player born on September 11 2001 plays AFL football in coming years, can you name any players born on days where significant historical events happened?

For example:

26-Aug-1883 - Krakatoa eruption
01-Jan-1901 - Australia's federation
15-Apr-1912 - Titanic sinks
28-Jun-1914 - Archduke Franz Ferdinand assassinated, leading to WWI
25-Apr-1915 - ANZAC landing at Gallipoli
11-Nov-1918 - Armistice to end World War 1
29-Oct-1929 - Black Tuesday stock market crash leading to Great Depression
06-May-1937 - Hindenburg disaster
03-Sep-1939 - World War 2 commences
07-Dec-1941 - Pearl Harbor attack
15-Aug-1945 - Victory in Pacific, end of World War 2
02-Jun-1953 - Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II
04-Oct-1957 - First man-made satellite (Sputnik) in space
22-Nov-1963 - Assassination of John F Kennedy
20-Jul-1969 - Moon landing
09-Aug-1974 - Richard Nixon resigns after Watergate Scandal
25-Dec-1974 - Cyclone Tracy destroys Darwin
11-Nov-1975 - Whitlam Government dismissed by Governor General
26-Sep-1983 - Australia wins America's Cup
26-Jan-1988 - Australia's Bicentennial
03-Oct-1990 - West and East Germany unified
31-Aug-1997 - Princess Diana dies

August 17 1995.

Ted Whitten's funeral was held and Tom Boyd was born.

I don't know the date but West Coast's Scott Lycett was born on the day of the Eagles' first premiership

Ooh that bodes well for us...in 1991 we lost to Hawthorn in the GF, we won our second flag in 94. In 2015 we lost to the Hawks again..3 years later. Also the 12 year thing, flags every 12 years since 1994, 2006, maybe 2018? Haha

Cam McCarthy was born on the day of Freo's first ever game, 1 April 1995.

But given that there have been between 60 and 135 players born each year that have played VFL/AFL (80-100 on average), the chances of anyone being born on a specific day in that year are only about 1 in 3 or 4.
