How many cords do you need to make the PlayStation work? Also, we have sound but no picture... how can we get pictures??

there are a few cords, 3 that go into the tv. the yellow one is the picture, the red and white are the sound (they should come from the one plug that goes into the back of the PS, so i really think its your playstation stuffing up).
