Hi Tiger fans

I'm an amateur playwright currently working on a short play.

I'm hoping there is someone on this board with a good knowledge of Richmond games/history in the 1980s period who can help me with some background.

Essentially, I have a female character who went to Tiger games with her Dad in this period and launches into an inspirational speech about a game or experience which made an impression on her.

So I'd be grateful if someone could take the time to discuss possibilities with me.

I'll read the board but my direct email is petemoss@lodestar.com.au

Thanks!

I can use a bit of creative license here with the date.

I only picked the 1980s because the play is set in the present, the female character is aged probably in her 20s, and she is recalling something she saw (or shared with her father) when she was a kid.

So it's no problem if I use something a bit earlier or later than the 1980s.

Thanks again.

Well i can recall a game when Jim Jess took a spectacular mark and kicked a goal after the siren to give to give us a one point win against hawthorn - at the MCG.

The only time i can remember us winning a game after the siren.

It was round 2 1977 (11th April).

Another good event was David Cloke kicking 8 goals in his last game of footy for us agaisnt the Blues. Cloke had earlier played in a Richmond preimership (1980) before crossing to the enemy (collingwood) and then came back for two seasons 90 & 91.

It was a night game at the mcg. 31 Aug 1991 - Round 24 (one of only two seasons that had 24 rounds, it and 92.)

What about round 16 1980 (20 July)- we played St.kilda at the SCG (that may bugger up your play) Saints kicked the first 4 goals of the game and lead 7 goals to 5 at quarter time. We then kicked 29 goals to 4 in the next 3 quarters and record our biggest ever win to date 152 points.

Kevin Bartlett's 400th in 1983.
We lost narrowly to the Skunks and Ray Byrne beat KB on the day, but it was an emotional day.

round 19 (6 August) 81 966 there ( i was one of them). We lost by 10 points after being 7 points up at 3/4 time.

Geez, using a richmond supporter in a play, what is it meant to be, a tragi-comedy or something? :D

Rhett Bartlett is meant to be up on his Richmond history. You might like to try and find him over at 'PRE' www.puntroadend.com

He can also help you with famous last lines in movies if you want. ROFLFMFLAOOOOO!

Yeah I was there too. Only I thought it was 9 points. Oh well a loss is still a loss. Can remember Bartlett tripping over the banner as he ran through.

if you want to use something a bit later, the 95 semi vs the bombers is a good one, or the rd 22 1997 clash with the blues coming back from a huge defecit to win by a couple of points to keep the blues out of the finals. probably a bit too late for your play though.

ROTFLMFAO!! That had me in tears (the laughing kind).

I think that Clokey game would be a fantastic one, I was there in the Northern stand and it was like the Gods just smiled on him that day, and he went out a hero.

I was in the Ponsford stand for KB's 400th and a huge massive day that was very emotional.. I cant remember a thing about the game apart from the banner and the result:(

If you can have dramatic licence I'd reccomend the 2nd semi, 1995. Our best game since 82, and an amazing afternoon of football and emotion.

We're down at half time and looking like we're about to capitulate but only Matty Knights with a couple of running goals kept us in the match.

Something happened during half time and after the break we dominated (after 5 mins of play IIRC) and once Scotty Turner knocked out O'donnel the game was ours.

Essendon had become a team of Rhys Shaw's.

Scotty Turner and Matthew Knights cemented their reputations that day and put it all on the line for the tigers.

I got chills just remembering it.

the whole of the 1980's final series, we were never gonna be beaten....

or the last game of the year against the south at albert park, we were on top nearly all year and south come out and beat us and we slid to 3rd...

then came out and gave Percy Jones and his bluebaggers a good ol touch up....and the rest they say is history, seems a shame we have to go so far back to remember the good times....

I vaugley remember it Hotdog.. Not the finals series but the GF. I was 5 at the time and the family which is all pretty much Pro Tiger, went to Cranbourne (was a diff place back in 1980..lol) to watch it at my uncles who was the only Collinwood supporter.

He cracked the sads and went to the pub at half time, and openly admits today that he has never followed football since that day.

I think it broke his poor lil Collonwood heart:D

I think second last game of the 1987 season, we had the spoon sown up. It dead set pi**ed down all night, and Michael Mitchell and Peter Wilson ran amok, and we won by less than a goal IMSC

Even better still, try Rhett's own site... www.rhettrospective.com

Thanks everyone - I'm still thinking this through and I will contact Rhett.

I'll keep you posted as to where I go with it.

BTW, it's a short play - around 10 minutes - it is funny but there's a message somewhere - and the Tiger fan gets the girl, but only after being humiliated by two Pies fans.

If I can get it to an acceptable standard and if it gets performed, I'll post here to let you know.
