I like many supporters, am extremely confused about who to support. I have been so caught up in many arguments, and yes, i will bow down and acknowledge that I do not have all the political knowledge about our board as many of you do. I have sometimes been arguing out of my depth, but this is purely because I am sick of all the negative press about our club and it is sad to see the supporters so torn.

The purpose of this thread is this:-
Instead of typing the negatives, could you please take some time out, and just highlight the positivies. I do not want to support someone based on what negative things they have or could do, i want to support someone who has done and will do the most positive for our club. No fear factor involved in this.

Would you all mind posting some plus points - quite like selling your argument, or kind of like running for school captain, where you just highlight what the person can do for your school (In this case, what the person has done/can do and why we should vote for them).

So, please help me out as I am quite ignorant in terms of political board doings, i will admit it, and please share your info and views with us all.

Without putting down the opposition - who to vote for and why?

Only looking at ideas not whether they will come off or not:

Unity ticket
- redevelopment plan phase 2
- Moulton and Harrison's mortgage company providing home loans to Carlton members and creating a revenue stream for the Blues
- M&H plans to bring in 60 sponsors at 25k each over 12 months
- rumours of Zac Fried bringing in more sponsors very soon
- Smorgon's personal wealth (should he choose to use it)

DCT
- Littmann's marketing experience.

Diggins
- plans for a trust to raise $7m
- plans to bring back generation blue
- Women's group work

No doubt there are heaps more but some are fresher in the mind as they are more recent.

Essentially right now it's a vote between the potential for unity on the board, a unified direction and no more unfortunate leaks to the media, and a mish mash of board members with conflicting views on the way forward for the club and without a unified plan forward (at least initially).

Vote Smorgan, and if you really don't think he's the way forward then vote for an alternative presidential nominee, with actual support, down the track when that alternative actually puts up there hands.

Sometimes ignorance can be a good thing, AWG. Personally, this administration feud is killing footy for me. It's put a HUGE damper on my enthusiasm for 2007, and it explains why I've been quiet around these areas.

I know some people love footy politics, but there are those like me that prefer to ignore it. I just want stability within the club. That's all I've wanted ever since the salary cap penalties. It just seems to me that each administation is trying to out-do the last by making rash decisions. And although some have had short-term success, each one has come back to haunt us. Eg, Signing Pagan, moving from Princes' Park, resigning Pagan....

Someone take me back to the 90s. :(

I agree totally....in the end it doesnt really matter.. No matter who gets in or what their "sell" is, the clubs interests will always be at the forefront. Lets face it, no-one gets, or tries to get a seat on the board to delibrately bring a club down... I say bring on round 1!!! Bring on the nab cup!!! bring on the practice matches watching our young heroes bust their collective arses trying to win a spot for round 1 against the Tiges!! thats when the passion will run through my veins, thats when I will yell myself hoarse, thats when I will beam with pride at the warriors running around in the glorious navy blue jumper, thats when a smile will return to my face watching the beggining of the glorious careers of Murphy, Gibbs, Bower,Grigg etc etc.. and thats when the reality will hit with me.. When I like so many of us will put this board crap in the "really could not give a rats toss" basket that it belongs..... GO BLUES!

Wouldn't that be amazing if M&H can bring 60 sponsors and $25 each to the table. Would sure go a long way to eradicating our debt problem. :thumbsu:

It only pays off the debt Smorgon created by going to the AFL to borrow $1.5 million. We would be $1.5 million up on reducing our debt if Smorgon had have done a Geoff Lord and loaned us that money until we could afford to pay it back.

Apparently the onus is only on the new candidates to bring in sponsorship so they can get elected on rumours of sponsors lining up and that new centre being built. That redevelopment won't get off the ground because the numbers are ridiculous and there is no such thing as a free lunch.

I don't like the wording that it will only get up if Smorgon, Wilson and Rose are re-elected and some board members will receive notes.

How transparent is it to have the companies of board members handing out home loans to members?

What's their take in that deal?

That's not quite right ILF because that 1.5m went to other debt, it didn't merely create debt. Oh I know in a perfect world, Smorgon would put up the money and say 'pay it back next century' but he didn't and is not compelled to. He still didn't create an extra $1.5m in debt regardless. IIRC he actually put in $1.5m last year for facilities or something, so to expect that he should put in every time there is a shortfall is very unfair. Nobody else does it.

As is the onus on Moulton and Harrison etc to bring in new sponsorships. That pair have outlined their plan and put themselves on the line as a result. A firm commitment overrides a tentative hope every day of the week. If they fail, they expose themselves.

The stipulation seems political, not beyond the realms of possibility but it does seem to be unlikely in my view.

The notes idea is not a bad one. Put money in and get it back at the end when a profit is turned. So not white knights as such, but investing in a vision.

What is the take of regular lending institutions? It's a business like any other. The only difference is that they will offer competitive rates because we are Blues members. What is the downside here?

Did I miss any ventures the DCT or Diggins campaigns are bringing? What do you think of the fund Lauraine wants to set up? Any thoughts or concerns on that front?

I would be staying clear of politics - hopefully will sort itself out and just support the club through this turbulent time. I'm sure sanity will prevail - we seem to have a stackload of big business people who want to assist so lets hope the pretenders are filtered out and we get back to the force on and off the park that we were......here's hoping

No i dont think you missed anything about any ventures that DCT or Diggins are bringing. Diggins gave us 1 line about $7m through a trust and DCT said they would save money by using volunteers.

How disappointment!

That $1.5 million is another debt that has to be paid back this year and it's already been spent.

How we will they make up the difference and pay back that debt if they don't find those sponsors?

Our revenue was down $1 million on last year's figures and Smorgon said we'd be in a cash neutral position this year. If members of the board are prepared to invest in notes for the good of the club and to get it back in the near future.

Why shouldn't one of the richest Carlton supporters in Australia invest more money in a club he believes it is viable and has a future?

I would if I had that kind of money and I truly believed that my directorship and presidency would ensure I get it back. Loaning that kind of money would have sent a positive message to the Carlton community and potential sponsors if he had invested his own money rather than portraying us as beggars in prime time. The board considerations regarding taking the AFL to court for the PP is another example of taking their eye of the ball and sending the wrong message to the football community.

Who wants to back a loser that is under AFL control?

See above.

It will raise money for Carlton, but how much will they make from giving competitive loans to Blues members?

Lauraine was on the board when they discussed this proposed development, so why don't you vote for her since the UNITY ticket are using it to pork barrel the members?

Diggins might not be pulling the wool over the members eyes by promising so much like all politicians do in elections and have money on the table.

*COUGH* NO TOLLS ON THE EASTERN FREEWAY

*COUGH* NO GST IN MY TERM IN GOVERNMENT

But she sure as hell is more deserving of a place on the board than Carr who hasn't even opened his mouth in public and been a more effective board member than Rose and Wilson, read Women of Carlton and Generation Blue proposals.
