Just herd on Krock, fractured hand. Having a plate put in and likely to miss the start of the season.

Re: Pods - Broken Hand

Not the end of the world. Puts more responsibility on Hawkins, which may just make him click and take charge of the forward line.

Re: Pods - Broken Hand

Very concerned for the welfare of P.O now, we need him on suicide watch

Re: Pods - Broken Hand

Sorry to hear, though I agree with the post about giving Hawkins the responsibility is the upside.

Re: Pods - Broken Hand

How realiable is Krock on these sort of things?

Heard it was a thumb injury? Remember Trav doing the same in preseaon last year - bout a 5/6 week turnaround?

Oh well, least it may give some clarity to the position we play the Hawk in!

Re: Pods - Broken Hand

On AFL website now, suspected fracture to a little bone in the hand, nothing too major but they are tipping 2-3 weeks after a bit of surgery. Probably puts him as doubtful for round 1, but on the other hand he will certainly be able to maintain fitness.

Re: Pods - Broken Hand

Moons just rested I take it?

We looked terrible against the dogs with Ottens up forward with Hawkins, until the latter got his game going late. Dogs rebounded with ease and cut us to pieces. If we are going towards a more kicking centric game plan than the tall forwards need to hold their marks, something Mooney and Pods do a lot better than the others.

Re: Pods - Broken Hand

Agree, but it is also as much about making the contests if we get the ball in like that.

Didn't watch the game, only listened via radio, but it did sound like Hawkins made a big contribution with his presence which created opportunities for Johno and Simpkin. Anyways, encouraging, but ideally Pods is still first man to occupy the FF position.

Not sure what Scott intends with Brad. However as we all know, you just need to give Otto' as much game time as possible and he just builds and builds.

Hopefully Pods can be back and catching within the month!

Re: Pods - Broken Hand

He might have started slowly but in the end it was Hawkins and his impact that put the game beyond the dogs. SEN commentators were riding him just before he cut loose, only to eat their words moments later.

Just wish Brown would make an appearance as an alternative marking tall forward now the Pods will be missed for a month.

Is Mooney 'OK,' or is he injured as well.

Re: Pods - Broken Hand

pods was looking good before the injury we need his marking power.hawkins improved as the game went on but still we will be better when pods is back.he will still play round one and like varcoe same time last year he can still do all the running so he wont be too far behind

Agree entirely especially if were going to kick long more often in to the forward line this year.I like Pods one on one in the air.

Johno only missed a couple of Weeks with his hand last year lets hope this is something similar

The best news... if there is such a thing... is that Pods will still be able to train and run freely with this injury even after surgery.

Getting the wind back is half the battle after injury.

Sadly, the paddle pop lion's injury makes it worse. Retweaking a hammy means more fiber tears and more swelling and bleeding. Bad juju for recovery...and definitely altered training. .

hope he can get it right and takes his time....

we need you back skipper!!!

Go Cats

He looked stronger in the upperbody than last year and looked to have worked hard in the preseason. He knows how to look after his body and it shouldn't hamper his training/season too much. Hawkins was shaky at start but finished strong. He needs to enforce from the start next week and use his body in the contest like he did on sunday. Big year for forwards at the Cats. Some tough decisions to be made and I hope Pods is a part of it.

Yes, I was listening to that. He makes one poor decision and they decide to go over every mistake he ever made. They were nearly into the "He will never realize his promise" meme....then he cuts loose. ;)

We look terrible when Ottens is up forward full stop. He hasn't been a forward for about 10 years now. He's a ruckman. That's it. The occasional breather fine, but otherwise it's suicide. He is simply too slow.

Regarding Hawkins, did anyone else notice how much more dangerous he looked at full forward? The longer it went the better he looked.

Memo to Chris Scott: never ever play Ottens up forward, and put Hawkins in the goal square next week. If we want to have a chance of winning.

A poem for Pods:
Pods over summer how I had missed you
How good it was to see you run out in the hoops blue
Shaved head and all it reminded me of Chapman
Not that with the great Chappy would I dare make comparison
You flew for marks with power and grace
Marking everything in front of your face
Also there were your fitness and timing
Much better than my attempts at rhyming
The signs were good though you kicked behinds
You were just warming up to put last year’s fantastic play at the front of our minds
Then the moment came for you to punch what you couldn’t mark, selfless
Unfortunately your hand was exposed and helpless
The break came and we were all sad
Your pre season had just gone bad
But fear not do not let it get you down
For soon you will be back in town
Running you can still do you will come back fitter than ever
Defenders are already quaking in their boots at the thought of this, they wish for rainy weather
Round one you will be back to make an impact
No doubt you will strengthen our attack
For you we shall all cheer
For the JPOD is again here
Rest easy, know that we are all behind you
For we believe in you too
Soon again it will be ‘easy as you like for the Pod’
And we will all smile and nod
That’s our Pod he is, never fear
Rejected by all he has his home here
Even while he rests for him we still cheer
For the footy is more fun when our Pods is here

Get well soon JPOD

Your pal, PO
