Surf's Up! Point Break 2 Closer to Filming

ComingSoon.net learned at the American Film Market (AFM) today that shooting for Point Break 2 will begin mid-2008 in Southeast Asia. The sequel will be financed and executive produced by Singaporean company RGM Entertainment. It will be written and directed by Peter Iliff, who also wrote the first movie.

Point Break 2 picks up from where the original film left off more than 15 years ago. The story will revolve around an ex-professional surfer who enlists in the US Navy and is recruited to track down a criminal gang based in Southeast Asia. The audience will also discover the fate of Bodhi (Patrick Swayze), the surfers' charismatic leader who was swallowed by a giant killer wave in the final scene of Point Break. Did he really die?

The follow-up is budgeted at $20-30 million.

"I wrote 'Point Break' in 1987 when I was still a struggling writer waiting at tables in Malibu," Iliff said earlier this year, "'Point Break' was the turning point and it made my screen writing career. 20 years later, I'm thrilled to have been given the opportunity by RGM Entertainment to write the sequel and to make my directorial debut with 'Point Break 2.'"

Well, isn't this going to be interesting... is making a second one blasphemy?

I assume they'll be casting Swayze as bodhi, but there is going to be no Utah i read somewhere...

I think it starts and ends where it says budget "$20-30 million". It'll be crapola. If they can't bring back Gary Busey from the dead its not worth it...

Point Break is one of those movies that's a bit like fine wine, only gets better with age.

Very disappointing to here this news, there will only ever be one point break.
Point break 2 will be the turning point again for Peter Lliff's screen writing career again, a turn for the worst.

We cannot forget that scene where Pappas and Utah nail their theory on the ex-Presidents:

"The ex-Presidents, rob banks to fund their endless summer.......(Jump up on table in surfing stance).........WHHHOOOAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH"

Classic stuff.

As for the sequel, no way they will match the great heights of cinematography reached back in '91, including riding left on a wave, only to break to the other camera angle to find Utah riding right.

One thing is for certain, I will be at the cinema to watch it, and will probably buy the DVD so I can watch it 100's of times.

I'm all for it.

And yes! - YOU BOTHER ME! And Pappas! Oh, for the love of Christ. How the hell did I even let you talk me into this whole bone-headed idea to begin with.


Pappas. Harp! We are working under-cover. It takes time. We've produced a few...

That is an beauty there Warchild..

Another has to be the whole scene at the "drop car"... The nerd's line at the start is my favorite..

Utah: "This car doesn't have AC. Today was a scorcher."
Nerd: "Sweat secretions in the seatbacks."

Pappas: "Are you through Mr. Wizard?"
"Let me know ifyou find Jimmy Hoffa under the seat while you're at it!"

Or the Australian Cop at the end, (questionable whether or not he's really Australian): "We'll get him when comes back in!"

If your all for Point break 2, try finding yourself a copy North Shore in the meantime for your viewing pleasure. It Stars none other than that worm Rick Kane which i managed to snake in the first heat of the main event at the pipeline masters.
