What was with all the points again? I didn't have the game on TV up here; however, I know the day was sunny. Was there a howling wind blowing across the ground? Matera again a major offender - for two weeks now.
Woosha will have to hang the target between the goal posts again for some shooting practice. Conversion has hurt us too often this season. We could have been in the 8 tonight. All the same a great win and looking forward to more of the same next Sunday.

Some of it was just bad kicking for goal, some just tiredness, but mostly it was a lack of time because Carlton played the biggestflood you'll ever see. Pagan often had no players in the Eagles' half! Absolutely pathetic by Carlton and I've lost a bit of respect for Pagan over that game. He had absolutely no intention other than to keep the score down.

Much like the Dogs really, clogged up the game, the young Eagles just need to learn to continue to blow the game apart. Still I'm very happy with the win. If we'd been guaranteed a 10 goal win before the match, everyone would have taken it.

As far as kicking goes, not alot Woosha can do really, they all know how to do it, they just ain't doing it very well at the moment. Loads of posters, does anybody know where I can get the hitting the post per team stats from? it might just be me but I reckon we'd be near the top. Ah well, we're playing good footy, some gremlins in the system still but hopefully we can iron them out.

A great win, but imagine how much damage if we'd converted some more of those behinds. Honestly, Goal accuracy is the only thing I see we're lacking in....

6 of the last 7 - yaaaahoooooo !! :D

I wouldn't call it a great win. It was a win, and any win is a good win, but that was a long way from a great win.

We should've knocked Essendon out of the 8 today. We could've ended the game with the 114 point margin we needed easily, but for:
Shocking kicking for goal... AGAIN,
Over-use of the ball, particularly close to goal,
Choosing bad options under pressure (this leads back to over use of the ball),
Being too quick on the trigger (I'm talking to you, Mr Adkins!)

I lost count of the number of times I screamed at the TV "Just kick the f**king thing!" when we were in the forward 50. What the hell was with all the handball? We were showing off and it cost us. A number of times it came unstuck. But for all the faffing and farting around, we could've absolutely buried Carlton. More so than we did last year!

Bottom line is if we play like that against a top 4 side, we'll get spanked. And spanked hard!

Someone needed to say this. I think we're all getting caught up in the fact we've won 6 of the last 7. Fact is we could've been 7 from 7 but for p155 poor shooting and p155ing about with the ball.

While I can except that the team over used the ball today, the heavy flood tactics from Pagan were always going to clog up the game and not allow the ball the flow as freely, I think that played a part.

Sure - it would have been great to win against Port at AAMI and kicking let us down. But look what has happened generally since the break. Considering the young players we have in our side and our ordinary first half of the 2004 campaign, I think we have come back well.

Each week is an improvement:

- Beat Geelong by 2 points
- Beat Hawthorn by 4 points on a cold ground we've previously struggled on
- Beat Essendon by 44 points with a similar injury list to them
- Lost to Port by 26 points at AAMI (the lowest losing margin for that round and a low margin against Port). People were predicting 50+ points and we beat them in almost every other stat.
- Beat the Bulldogs by 49 points who we narrowly beat early in the year
- Beat the Lions by 14 points at the Gabba, something all other teams have failed in this year.
- Beat Carlton by 62 points, who we lost to earlier at Optus Oval and who have improved compared to last year.

Would have been nice to get a 100+ pointer, but the important thing is the win and we go into a Derby against at Freo, who are not going too well.

Like I said, any win is a good win. But lets not kid ourselves into thinking we are some kind of super team after today's, fairly routine, outing. I felt a similar disappointment after the Dogs game. We should've buried them too. That's twice we've come up against teams we have completely outclassed in every position on the ground, broken the game open in the second & third quarters, and then gone to sleep in the fourth. Keeping the foot to the floor all the way to the end in both of those games has us COMFORTABLY inside the 8, maybe as high as 6th, and also gives us breathing space to be able to drop one of the next two & still make it. Instead, we find ourselves in 9th, and in reality needing to win both the remaining games.

Watching the game live it was quite simple to see why all of these things happened. It's called a flood - and a monster one at that. Carlton filled their back 50, giving us no space and forcing us wide - hence the huge number of behinds and overuse of the ball.

To be honest it's hard to reach much into that game at all. Only one team was trying to win that game, the other were trying to minimise damage (which the probably actually succeeded at). Carlton are a rabble.

And the excuse for the last quarter fade out?

Wasn't making excuses - just giving you observations from live at the ground that would have been much harder to pick up on tv.

And the last quarter was just that - a fade out. Game was over, we took our foot off the pedal. Still won by 62 points which I'll take every time (even over a rabble)

no making excuses, but Carlton had to kick a few goals at some time. Also don't forget the boys had a pretty tough game the week before with most looking absolutely stuffed after that game. We kicked 3.6 to their 4.6 in the last quarter so maybe they did tire a bit and take their foot off the pedal. i think Woosha would have been pretty pleased with the work effort on a whole.

Totally agree. I'm happy to get the 4 points, but that was one hell of a frustrating win.

the worry is that it is the second time in a week that it's happened.

Make that 3 times in 3 weeks. We had every opportunity of burying the Dogs by 80-odd points a couple weeks ago, then Brisbane damn near snatched it last week, then yesterday. If we do that against the frockers, we will lose - count on it. The purple filth still treat the derby as more important than any other game, including finals, and as such they will not stop until the game is over.

The really frustrating thing is that against top sides, they don't play like that. They need to learn to be ruthless. Go, go, go, until full time is blown. That's how you build percentage and that is the difference this year between 6th & 9th.

these crucial pts are costing us games plus percentage
just name a few
Bombers should of had that game crucial misses easy goals game lost
port in subi 3 posters lost by 3 points
collingwood 1st quarter dominated missed easy shots early, let them in the game game lost
port in adelaide won everything not on the scoreboard
16 points lostdue to games lost

percentage
Carlton
Doggies
adelaide

6-10 %

do the maths yourself

ps dont mind the grammar
