Couldn't find any threads on poker DVDs, so I thought I'd start one. Will talk about serious DVDs another time, but for now, I thought I'd mention this "gem": Win At Poker With Phil Tufnell

Is there anything this man can't do?

Lol, saw in the Sun today, on Pulse...what a legend. Loved his comments to Punter and his men, and he knows how to play poker aswell...he will soon become an icon in Australia, and take over Tony Greig on channel 9

No, I think you need to have some sort of reputation in the sport you played to become a commentator, and nobody cares about Phil Tufnell. I bet he sucks at poker just as he sucked at cricket. I hope to god he doesn't try and make any jokes during the DVD. ;)

On a more serious note, I have Annie Duke's Advanced DVD and Phil Gordon's DVD as well. I think they're both very good. I wish there were heaps more good DVDs out there though.
For a newbie at poker etc , why would you want these dvds? What do they have in them to make you want to buy them?

I'm sure you would find the same tips as you would in poker books, but I think the idea is that some people tend to learn better and remember things more when they're getting shown visually. I've never watched one before, but I don't think you'll find any different tips than you would reading most poker books.

I learnt pretty much everything from online poker forums rather than books, just get the right people showing you how to play and how to make the right decisions is all you really need. Everyone plays differently so why not just get advice and knowledge from heaps of different sources then use them all to develop your game.

I don't think we need to be dissing books and DVDs outright, as HighRoller said, a well-rounded education should suit us all well. For the time being, I have chosen to invest my time playing 2-3 sessions at the casino each week rather than play online (and my home pc's stuffed), as well as enjoying poker books and the occasional DVD. You wouldn't find too many pros that haven't read Brunson, Harrington, Caro, Sklanksy etc.

Re the two I have, Annie's one came highly recommended, and while it has some faults, overall it is worth the money. Phil Gordon's DVD looked interesting, has many good tips, and has a unique approach in that you watch a "real" final table, yet only see Phil's hand as he narrates. It's a little pointless watching WPT knowing what everyone has and saying whether someone made a correct decision or not. That said, I love watching WPT.

Received my Rounders Collector's Edition (R1) from amazon yesterday. Flicked through it. There's commentary by Johnny Chan, Chris Ferguson, Phil Hellmuth and Chris Moneymaker, as well as tips from the pros, info on professional poker, etc etc. A good buy.

Trivia: Johnny Chan agreed to be in the movie because his daughter wanted to meet Matt Damon.
