I believe that Polak can be a pretty handy CHB in 2008 also one that can hurt other sides on the rebound with Bowden and Mcmahon as HBF ,King working as defensive Cr umber or Newman for that matter Thursfield at FB .Maybe this will be the go for most of 2008 like to know other Tigers supporters thoughts on this:)

i think polak will play chb in 2008. he is a good player and a hard worker. with thursfield getting more experience and mcguane is also looking good. throw them in with the experience of bowden, newman and mcmahon we have a not bad looking backline.

hope so, we need someone like Polak to cement themselves as a rock in our defence. If he does this will only help Thursfield become even more effective at FB.

Rance will play round 1 i reckon

looking real good

Can't play one on one against an opponent to save himself. Not a bad loose man in defence, but we have plenty of guys who can do that.

Still, would like to see him on the half back line. Would love to see him alternate with Schulz between half back and half forward during games, just to mix stuff up.

Would probably kick a lot of goals if played as a permanent forward.

id prefer polak at FF when you think about it if you left him 1 out in the square and pop it up to him everytime nobody will out mark him

a forward line of Brown Richo Petiffer
Collard Polak Deledio

doesnt look to bad

hes actually our best option at CHB because one of his main strengths apart from contested marking is his ability to read the ball and play. If he gets better at 1-on-1 contests which i am very confident of, he could be huge for us as a general/rock down back. Hes good to throw forward occassionally but with his pretty poor kicking at goal, i'd prefer hm to only pinch hit there occassionally, ....would be more frustrating than richo as a permanent fwd

Hope your right got a good feeling about Rance maybe he is one of those kids who will stand up early :thumbsu:

He'll swing between both all year depending on the match ups but play mostly forward and in the ruck. We still need that extra tall backman and I've got a feeling Pattison will play alot more down back this year if Simmo is fit. Hopefully Rance is a Jarred Rivers

After this season tall backmen will be queing up to come and play for the tigers and we will play consistant finals for 10 years thats how solid our list is becoming.

I agree. Lets all remember he is only a kid himself. The backline is his go and as you say - a damaging pinch hitter up forward if used sparingly.

Pattison is NO chance of playing CHB, hes too slow and lumbersome to play there
Certainly not yet. He may develop into a Benny Gale type role but he will be given the task of learning to ruck first and see what happens from there. He certainly has potential but I'm not sure where his future (if he has one) lies.

FF for Polak at least in NAB Cup and Schulz to be given the CHB role.

Not such a bad idea. Just to give the two a chance to prove themselves. Schulz's efforts in the backline thus far however have been very disappointing, and it will be interesting to see how he has handled the off season drama of wanting to be traded to port but not being allowed to. Very much a make or break year for schulz. Think he could suprise a few in the forward line if richo goes down for a few matches.

Patto has already showed his best form as a follower, would be next to edwards as an unlikely CHB....Thursty, Mcguane, Bowdo sarge or Gourdis for tall defenders....Polly will be tried as a KF in 2008

Polak would be the best CHB in the short term, but I think it will be Rance's position within a year or two, with Thurstfield at FB and McGuane taking the third tall forward.

It's the other end of the ground where our future is less certain. Schultz, Hughes, Gourdis and Pattison have all got questionmarks of different sizes next to their names. Riewoldt looks good but is still no certainty.

Personally I think Polak will do some key defence jobs this year, but will ultimately be working at the pointy end of the ship.

CHB?

No way.

We're talking LOOSE MAN IN DEFENCE most likely.

That's what he did this year. He CAN'T play directly on an opponent he has proven that. We need to develop someone else at that position.

I think you guys should stick him up forward.

His goal kicking has always been questioned but he's never been giving a string of games up forward to prove himself.

Freo and richmond stick him forward for 1 week then stick him back for the next 5..

Leave him up there for 10 games and see how he goes.

I think you'll find your new star forward in polak. Let him build some confidence.

Realistically, you guys aren't going to win the flag, stick him up forward and maybe one day you will be able to win it with him kicking them goals.

shultz is a ff and nothing els , been tried down back not enough speed & not defensive enough either. give him a chance at ff 8-12 games this year if he doesnt kick goals flick him . but you never no could just pull a rabbitt out of the hat this year (about time ) make or break year for sarg :)

Agree with all that. Played much of the last third of last season as a CHB taking the key forward, but people pin him with the loose defender role because he played that for the first two thirds of the season. Needs to get better at the body on body work, but if he can do that he will be a pretty handy CHB.

He is best suited as a loose man in defence as he has shown that he is easily beaten one on one if he is put on a stronger bodied player. He played as a loose defender for most of last year and was quite effective in this role.

Totally disagree with the above quotes and any other's that state that Polak can not play one on one or is easliy beaten one on one. Totally unproven. He was asked to fullfil different roles throughout the season with the main one being a loose man in defence which he did admirably. Can't think of many games where he got beaten when he was given the task to play a defensive role on one opponent. He's certainly stronger than most key forwards and is suprisingly quick for his size.

Polak is in a good position here.

CHF or CHB, he makes that particular line look very good.

The Centre Half Back line looks like

McMahon - Polak - Bowden

That would easily be among the best in the league. Bowden is a proven AA, McMahon has super skills. And Polak, one of the best marks in the league.

Or else Centre Half Forward line;

Deledio - Polak - Brown

:thumbsu::)

He gets pushed off the ball easily so i wouldn't say he is stronger than most key forwards.

I would love to see him prove me wrong next year by playing CHB on the likes of Brown, Hall, Lucas, PAvlich, Riewoldt and co. I don't like his chances.......he is a servicable player when he plays loose in defence and floats forward. Power forwards will destroy him and make him look ordinary. :thumbsu:
