I like Connoly but I think you are right. He seems the ideal assistant coach, but not the head coach. Like a teacher who has a great rapport with students but is not suited to having to make the hard decisions/bad copping that being the boss requires.

the problem with Gutless Graham is that he is gutless. But having said that, I have always had a soft spot for Polak and I am glad he is doing well at the Tigers.

GUTlESS geesh, god damn people he puts his body o the line more than anyone i've seen, just backs up grap the ball no worries, i can't see gutless been used to describe him but, oh well.

I think if you go back through the posts around trading time it was posters fom Victorian clubs who thought he was useless. There were planty of us suggesting he was a bit of a rough diamond. He did have patches of great games for us. I think it was the start of 2005 he had 6 great games beofre getting injured. And I'll never forget him outmarking Alessio in his first game.

I don't know all the reasons but my mail is that like many Aboriginal players he blossoms away from home.

I also think it has a lot to do with fitness and getting a run of games under his belt.

He's a brilliant mark isn't he? And he's fearless too.

he's marking is amazing, the best in the team, for sure.

hes the best player in a team that has 0 wins. he is still not playing as a KPP more of a 3rd tall who just roams around the defensive 50 assisting other defenders

he still has a long way to go to prove we made the wrong decision

naH i don't think so and i'm not saying you made a wrong decision i just think he has proven he's worth to us already, we may be a team with 0 wins but you have to understand graham is like one of the oldest players, our team is more like an under 18's side than a AFL team, i don't know, i just think i understand where our club is at and i'm not to dissappointed.

Graham is going great at Richmond and that is good.

If he stayed at freo I don't think he would be improving himself or the club so the right choice was made to trade him. Richmond got a bargain, there is no denying that but his leaving means todays freo team is better than it wouldv'e been had he stayed.

Polly's a confidence player also. If he gets a run of games where he does well, then he builds on that, which he is doing at Richmond. His confidence has been known to be a little fragile in the past, hopefully with some maturity and a change of scene, that will be less of a problem for him. Good luck to him. Would have been nice to hang onto him, but he was too much in the comfort zone here.

I was talking to an ex-girlfriend of his about a year ago. Her words were, "He's a very, very naughty boy. It's a wonder he can get up most mornings, let alone play football."

Away from his "influences" he can really only move in one direction, and that is up. Such a shame it couldn't happen here at Freo.

And raff - I don't think we got bugger all. The net in/out for us was:

In: Tarrant, Solomon, pick 52
Out: Polak, Medhurst, pick 13, pick 42

That was about fair considering where he was at. Two years ago you were saying Polak for Kerr - but realistically that trade was never going to happen. The weags were interested, but not for Kerr. Polak's slide in form and confidence happened in the last two years - back then he had just signed a new deal and was still very much part of future plans.

Agree wholeheartedly with all your points Tony.

Tigers got a bargain, and we improved our list (at least in the next 3 years or so) as Polak needed a change of scenery to get the best out of himself.

I was a Croad fan, but He dogged a contest right in front of me one night at Subi and I cut him. Same with Polak he took a strong mark and showed potential but he took a few haevy knocks and lost his bottle, he was gutless at Freo. The reason for his improved form is that Richmond have insisted he lays off his beloved weed. Pretty Boy Craod and Gutless Graham should be inducted into the Daniel Bandy Hall Of All Dogacts.

Bit harsh to compare Polak to Dan Bandy... at least Polak once had a bit of hardness (and apparantly has gotten it back). Dan Bandy on the other hand is the most gutless player i've ever seen to pull on a jumper.

You are right IP in that we wouldn't have got Kerr but we could have got something better than a rodgering. No one gives away as many competent players as we do.

We usually sell low (McPhee, Clement), buy high (Headland, J Carr). Tarrant is the exception (with him coming off an average year).

We got Solomon for four fifths of bugger all and he has been excellent for us. :thumbsu:

Ditto that, my Ex from about 2 years back went to high school with one of his "conquests" aparently all the attention from the high heeled section of Subiaco got to his head, too much partying and bulls**t and not enough focus on football

Its a damn shame for us coz we wasted pick 4 on him, not saying he's not talented but i think the fact he came through the local system and was going to be the next "big" thing added to the fact he was on a Local team 's list meant all the celebrity and fanfare was always going to be around him, poor bugger was destined to be under pressure the whole time.

But having said that more that a few of his associates say he is a weak as piss character and so leaving that all behind him is probably the best thing for his football career
