You're right, in 100 years your pics will be in great condition. But chances are in 100 years you will no longer be able to view your pictures.

There are new image types being made every day, and updated version of current image types (ie. Jpegs, Gifs etc) so in 10 years time, they will probably be updated so much that you will no longer be able to view them with normal viewing tools (because the new program will be made for the new images).

Me and my dad were actually talking about this the other day!
So convert them....

.bmp images have been the fame for 15 years, I reckon. its not like its happening monthly.

I've discussed this before as well. Like Porthos says convert them. When things start changing that much you hear about it and you make the changes necessary to keep those files.

Um...I can think of a much more practical reason why you won't be able to view your pictures in 100 years.

What I mean is ...

In 100 years time you go to look at these pictures that were found in their current JPG format.

Chances are there will be no converters around for a format that old ;)

What rot Masey. There will be 'antique' collectors of such quaint things as CD players, petrol driven engines, walkmans etc etc etc.

There's always been a market somewhere driven by people who like old stuff. If I can still get needles for the 78 then in a 100 years there will be converters available for any viewing computer formatted images.

Btw whoever said there could be that 'other reason' we wont be around to see em (I am guessing they were talking death here ;) ) what about all that talk of modern medicine allowing us to all live forever!! (or til 150 odd anyways)!! You never know, some of us just may be around to see if them converters come in or not.
