Whats everyones opinion of the disputed catch off Ricky Ponting last night. Im in two minds about it myself, ive grown up in the game to believe if a fieldsman claims he has caught the ball thats good enough, and surely with all the cameras around you wouldnt claim a catch if you thought you would get caught out by the camera, on the other hand the technology is there and has proved useful, so why not use it if unsure. Tricky one i think

Ponting should have walked

It was clearly a catch and he had the best view of the catch.

In days gone by there would be no question - a better sportsman would have done the right thing and walked.

Just another display of poor sportsmanship from an Australian cricketer, its all too depressingly familar these days.

They might be the best in the business at the moment but their boorish attitude makes me sick.

cheers

Id have to disagree.
Ricky just saw the green light and thought that it proved that he wasn't out and played on. Im not sure whether they showed the replay on the big screen at the MCG. But i was at the test match at the MCG and they didn't show it on the big screen, they just had the big screen focussed on the lights. So im assuming that it was the same last night. So Ricky didn't do anything wrong. I bet that any other player in the world of waited for the 3rd umpire as he did.

Absolute rubbish Nick

Ponting watched that ball all the way into Carlisle's hand - where it bobbed out - and went back in again.

He was out and he knew it and he should have walked - end of story.

What a callow tosser Ponting has proved himself to be this summer

And this guy fancies himself as a vice-captain ? - pull the other one.

BSA

I am sure that every batsman at some stage has stood plum in front and watched the ball thump into his pads - never seen any of them walk though!! - they all wait the umpire to make a decision, as did Ponting.

my 2 cents

Cheers]

Over here we're led to believe that Aussie batsmen have never walked it's interesting to see that this is not neccessarily the case.On the issue of taking the fielders word for it,I know I wouldn't.There's a story regarding Ian Chappel in a Test(against South Africa?) when he asked the fielder if he'd caught it and the fielder said yes when he got back to the dressing room everyone said he caught it on the half volley so at the end of play Chappel confronts the bloke & 'he replies you asked me if I caught it not whether it bounced first'!-I don't think Chappel was best pleased-LOL

Maybe thats why Chappelli has been such a sour old bastard on the telly for the last 15 years!

Punter's taken over from Ian Healy as the sides pork chop.

Hopefully he'll grow up soon and end up being one of Australia's great captains.
