After being at the ground and watching England bat for two days I became more disillusioned with Ponting's captaincy. There were either no plans, or our bowlers are that in capable of sticking to a plan you might as well not bother with one.

However, as if to fool us and give us hope, there was half an hour on day 2 where there was an actual plan that worked. We gave Cook and Trott a bouncer barrage with 3 men of the fence and 5 on the legside. Ponting may have been channelling Jardine, but at least it worked. After nothing for 3 hours they then had Cook given out on the hook caught behind (which was turned down on referral), Trott dropped by Haddin on the hook, and then Trott getting out to a soft dismissal after being shaken up by the short stuff. Then for some inexplicable reason Ponting decides to ditch this tactic when Pieterson comes in and gives the ball to Doherty and queue a further 8 hours of seemingly aimless bowling.

I don't think Ponting is totally to blame, I'm sure that tactical genius Tim Nielson has a lot to do with it, but we desperately need someone with fresh ideas.

Also have our bowlers ever heard of a yorker? Has Siddle already forgotten how he got his hatrick?
