What actually happened was that Banini was crying and bitching to the referree about a decision and was holding up the game so Bobby said "SHUT UP MONKEY"

Again Bobby was not charged with racial villification.

Yeah i do think he would call a white player monkey. Mick Martyn got called monkey and baboon by the crowd whenever he came to subi.

Banini looks like a monkey therefore bobby sledged him by calling him a monkey.

No we don't throw anything at anybody nowdays. Do the AFL fans throw steggles turkeys at phil Matera. Or Fruitloops at matthew pavlich (Tu-can).

I think you'll find the answer is no in both cases.

Beacuse he doesn't resemble a rooster or emu. Maybe if he had a big beak then he would of used it. But he looks like a monkey hence "shutup monkey"

Fortunately, for the AFL, there never has been an escalated problem with racism with fans and have never had to set up a 'Fair Play' type regime, unlike Soccer.

So you better start peeling those bananas. You're a dying breed...
 
"Monkey" is generally accepted as a racist sledge when used at a black player.

I remember going to Leeds once when they were playing Brighton (I think it was - I was neutral, just wanted to see a game) and they threw bananas at Justin (?) Fashanu, called him a monkey and chanted "super, super, super ******".

Charming people.

Having said that, Spurs have always been very opposed to racism, hence the Chelsea chant of "Tottenham are black, Tottenham are black, hello".

I could go on for weeks with this stuff from history - most of us would prefer such rubbish was condemned to the past.
 
Milwall have a big history of monkey chants (surprisingly enough only at black players), and bananas thrown onto the ground. I believe that has been cut out to some extent, it sounds like Perth management need to embark on the same type of education program as Millwall did for some of their supporters.

Peter Everitt calling an aboriginal player a petrol sniffer?
The Collingwood supporters yelling out "Sorry Dale Sorry" to Dale Kickett as a taunt when sorry day first came out.

Leon Davis the 1st Aboriginal Player to play 50 games for Collingwood a club which has been around 100+ years.

AFL fans are just as bad.

But more to the point calling banini a monkey isn't racist and I am not racist.
