Utterly appalling today. He's been terrible this season, borderline terrible the one before and poor the one before that. Today though, was the worst.

He hasn't been able to tackle since his shoulders, but he didn't even try to land one today. At one point there was a guy standing next to him with the ball and Porps just stood there with him, then after about a second or two he put his arms out and gently nudged the player who ignored him (still standing still) and then stood there for another second. Them both just standing there. Then Porps reached out again and with only one hand grabbed lightly onto his jumper and stood there without pushing/pulling/tackling/anything. The player just continued to ignore him and then kicked it to a free man.

The utter lack of presence in all facets of his game is utterly incomprehensible to me after seeing what he was capable of many, many years ago.

He fumbled. He made the wrong decision when under pressure. He made even worse decisions when not under pressure. Nearly all of his handballs were to a player under pressure/in the process of being tackled. His kicks were off target. He couldn't run after players, he couldn't run to get in the clear, he couldn't run off the ground. Permanent jogging. He still can't put his hands up, which is a shame and not something I blame him for at all.

Has to be dropped.

Good day otherwise.

Criticism is warranted - he's been useless this year - but in 2011 ("the one before that") he played less than 5 minutes before doing his shoulder. Don't see how making things up helps get your point across.

i feel for the guy. looks to me to be genuinely trying still. and you can see in his face/body language that he knows he's playing terribly.

needs to be playing sanfl now until he's had a sustained run of good form.

In - Crouch
Out - Porps

Being at the game today Porpy is definitely taking some short-cuts

Furthermore Porpy just refuses to tackle, time and time again he is in a position to pin the arms and stick a tackle however he chooses to grab a handful of jumper instead

I read that he had 15 touches today however I can't recall an effective disposal

Without Him Johncock Callinan and Tambling on our list next year. We should have a stack of cash free.

Had 18 touches (1 less than Sloane) which is proof that stats can lie. Didn't play well today.

Really hope that he can turn his form around. He is a very important player at his best. If he isn't injured (with his ulcer) then I would be more than happy to keep playing him for another 2-3 weeks to see if he can get into some form.

IMO he is too good to be just cast aside and his upside is worth the risk.

I've said this over a number of threads but how much of a pre season did he have and how much of an impact did his stomach ulcer have on his fitness?

He's lost all confidence in his shoulders to tackle I reckon... :(

If Porps is in the side to tackle - then we are in bigger trouble than I thought.

We need him influencing the scoreboard. His strengths have always been his footysmarts / ability to find space and quality disposal. If he can get his confidence back - I couldn't give two shits about his shoulders ability to stick a tackle.

IMO his lack of tackling ability is the least of his issues. He can't get into spots to hurt the opposition on the scoreboard at the moment. Right now I would rather have Stiffy in Porps spot, as he was at least kicking goals and getting into spots where he could do damage.

When Porpy is playing well he is very clean, rarely fumbles, has all the time in the world and gets value for his possessions

At present he is fumbling and his touches are ineffective, he's been omitted once without having to fight his way back into the team however it's time for Porpy to go back to the sanfl to regain some touch & confidence

Tackling is part of football DNA, every player needs to be able to stick a tackle when it's your turn to do so

Carrying players who can't do the basic fundamentals means carrying risk that could be avoided

A missed tackle can cost you a game and a strong tackle can win you a game

He needs to be able to do the footy fundamentals

I agree. Can anyone tell us the last time this happened though? The last good game he had? 2010 he played two or three decent games. That's 3 years ago.

Last year he played well in his milestone match against Richmond and wasn't too bad against St Kilda I think it was.

Today meant nothing.

Our problem is still forward line crumbing. That's where its going to make or break him, otherwise there are others that are past him. We took 35 marks inside 50 today, so ball on the deck was irrelevant.

Whats happened to McIntyre? Is he injured?

Righto Neil, no need to tackle in the modern game. It's not that hard to outrun a football in flight.
