This just reinforces how the conditions affected them, but I can't believe how unprepared they were. Everytime I hear GABBA I think about humidity, people on this board were talking about it for weeks before the game.

Most important thing now is a strong effort against GWS.
They are hard conditions to replicate. 34 degrees at night and so humid it was basically a wet weather game. But our guys definately physically wilted. Puking, cramping, and second to the ball for three quarters.

How do you prepare for humidity? The player's togs were drenched like it had rained!
How do you prepare for the unknown with some key players out, for 1st round, a 5 hr flight away?
They were gassed by halftime. It was just a tough gig for round 1.
A perfect storm for the returning Premiers and the Lions knew it, so did Simmo.
How do you get the team in the right mindset for that? It's easy to correct in hindsight.
Clearly, it's not a perfect world, certainly not in the unpredictable game of football.
I'd be more concerned if they showed that performance against the Lions (or Giants) at Optus, or if Lions were that good and made us look that crap at Optus.

I would have thought they'd think about treating it like a wet weather game if the ball got too slippery. I think one of the main reasons we got bogged in defence was that players weren't able to mark the ball reliable, so the pin point kicking game broke down. I saw a lot of spilt marks that would have normally been taken.

Knowing about it and being able to do something about it are 2 different things.
Given our ridiculous surplus last year maybe WC can invest in a full ground sauna to replicate our occasional early season sojourn to Brissy.
What a ridiculous idea.....Could we really afford it??
