Possibility of a Carlton - Pies GF

If you guys do end up against the scum in the Grand Final, please do me, Essendon and the rest of the footy world a favour and smash them to pieces. I don't think I could bare a scum premiership. Much rather have you guys level on 16 flags than them one ahead.

I'll even wear a Pies scarf all week leading up to the Granny if you play Carlton, that's how strongly I feel about this.

We won't be playing Carlton because there is noy way on earth that Carlton will beat the Coasters over there. I just can't see it. It would take miracle games from Judd, Murphy and Simpson to do it.

Cheers,mate.

Barracked hard for the Bombers yesterday and hoped they would rid us of Carlton from the finals, but alas it was not to be.

Carlton certainly have a chance to beat WC this week. I personally don't think the Eagles are quite there yet, but if they play Geelong in the Prelim, it will be a massacre.

Yep, West Coast is money for jam this week.

They won't be carrying any of mine.
Eagles are bruised and battered, while blooz are full of run and confidence.

If you seriously believe we were trying after some niggling injuries during the last game against them Ant its pointless talking.

Of course we threw the last game, but we also shouldn't be so dismissive of how good Geelong is.

Any team will fold if you play your terms against them, that really doesn't say anything about how one intends to do that against the Cats.

Geelong deployed the same tactics on us in the last game that they did in round 8.

You can bet they think they have us figured out, and with all confidence too.

Ant don't get me wrong. I think Geelong are a very powerful side and when allowed to run amok they can be totally devastating, but a couple of times this year they have been attacked with real pressure and have folded.

I happen to believe we haven't seen anything like the pressure we are still fully capable of delivering yet. The players have been kept in cotton wool for much of the season which Mick warned the faithful of right at the start of the season. Let Geelong be the flat track bullies this year and see if they can sustain that all the way through to the GF, its a bloody long season Ant and we as a team have been groomed to peak for the GF, both physically and mentally.

I'll keep faith with the team team, both onfield and off to give us a strong shot at back to back.

I haven't lost faith, I just don't think the flag is a shoe in, and I've conceded favouritism based on form and injuries.

I know we can beat Geelong.

But the Cats were required to come up with a new approach to beat us after last year's Prelim.

They have.

They swarm to contests, as we did. They apply pressure, as we did. They run hard and spread, both defensively and offensively.

Their defensive zone has strangled our scoring power. And then on turn overs, they run the ball down so quick our press falls apart, and our defensive zone can't catch up.

They've lifted their game to take it up to us.

What worried me about the round 24 game was that even in the first quarter, Geelong applied those same tactics that they did in round 8, and we seemed to crumble.

Either MM is holding a masterstroke, or we haven't found a way to counter their new approach.

This isn't a question about personnel, I know we have the team to beat them, but I'm questioning whether going about our daily business with our press will be enough to beat them.

A tactical question more than one about personnel.

Yes the tactical question has merit Ant because we basically haven't used the press fully this year and I doubt we will now until the GF.

I truly believe we can beat a depleted Hawthorn or a battered Sydney in the prelim without having to go the full press all game so it will be in the GF that we will see just how well the Cats have progressed - if they make it that far.

Also a side point to mention is that they have lost one of their most creative forwards for the year in Menzel, which will at the very least cause a reshuffle up forward. They are NO certainties to get through to the GF, Sydney showed that and WC embarrassed them with the press also.

If the Blues manage to beat West Coast, then a week later I will find myself barracking for Carlton in a Preliminary final.

I honestly never thought that day would ever come.
