As the title suggests, this is a match-ups thread for Saturday night’s game. I would like to add as a form of disclaimed that I don’t mind Adelaide supporters contributing constructively, that is, no abuse. Not sure about others on this board feel about opposition supporters, but I feel it’s good to get an oppositions perspective.

Now to the match-ups, we will know more after selection tomorrow, but these are some of my early estimates.

Godfrey vs Goodwin – Godders was excellent last week, and it should also be mentioned that he didn’t have one clanger! This could be a crucial match-up, and I’m hoping Godfrey can limit Goodwin’s impact.

Whelan vs Ricciuto – IF Whelan plays, he should get first shot on the Roo as he towled him up last time. If this match-up isn’t working then I would try Biz if Ricciuto is playing forward.

Lamb vs ???? – Hard to find a really good match-up for Lamby, possibly Crowell who has been playing forward of late, or who, Stevens??

Neitz vs Bassett – Neita hasn’t kicked a bag for oh.. 3 or so weeks now, time for a big one from the Captain.

Vardy vs Hart – Ben Hart killed Vardy last time, and it seemed Vardy was afraid of attacking the players he used to be teammates of. Vardy is in good form and this match-up will be an interesting one to say the least.

McLoed vs ??? – J. Macca, Brown Dog, Walshy… these are the main taggers we have, but McLoed may prove to be too strong for them. Chell or Woey may be better options.

As for their taggers, I would expect Kane Johnson to get Johnstone, and Stenglein to get Yze.

I’ve only gone through a couple of possible match-ups what do you think?

I doubt the Crows would use Kane in a tagger roll, but ya never know. McLeod has been inconsistent this year, last week he had a shocker. I'd personally expect you'll have more trouble from Johnson, but McLeod is THE big game player.

On last weeks SANFL form you will need to match up Beinke in the forward line, possibly full forward but most likely floating around half forward. Perhaps this is the roll for your Lamb.

Hart is playing good footy at the moment, but the Vardy match up worries me. Basically if Hart doesn't stop him no one will. God I miss Vards!

Cheers.

Hey guys!

A Crows fan here. I have just been thinking about some of the possible matchups myself. The Dees have got so many dangerous midfield players that the midfield battle should be awesome. In my opinion Johnstone right now is the most dangerous Melbourne midfielder and because of that I expect Stenglein to be matched up on him. The Crows generally just go with one defensive midfield matchup. If it's not on Johnstone then probably Yze.

Currently the Crows have a few lesser known midfielders that are playing better than the established ones. Ladhams has been in exceptional form in recent weeks and Bode has been good all year. Goodwin struggled last week in his first game back but with that run under his belt should be close to his usual self.

McLeod has not been him self for many weeks now and last week was probably his worst game since 96. He has played a lot of his time at half forward of late and I expect he will start there again against Melbourne.

Melbourne's forward matchups is where it gets interesting.

Neitz - could get any of Bassett, Smart, McGregor, Biglands, although Biglands will only be a last resort. If Neitz plays out of the square I expect Bassett to get him.

Vardy - Us Crows fans know exactly how Dangerous Vards can be but when a real top quality defender plays on him he can be shut down, sometimes so much that he is totally ineffective. Unfortunatley it takes a real good defender to do this and the Crows will therefore have to put Hart on him. He also did well on him last time although with Vardy he can be up and down. If not Hart then Edwards is the man for Vardy. The Crows believe Vardy does not have a good defensive side to his game so expect the Crows to run off him.

Robertson - Very dangerous (much like Brett Burton) because he plays on the ground yet is a great marking target. The ideal player for Robertson would be Hart but he will probably be busy with Vardy. Other than that it will possibly be Smart.

At the other end in the Crows forward line I am really not sure what the matchups will be. Maybe some Melbourne fans can give some suggestions.

Brett Burton will play FF, Mark Stevens will play CHF. Apart from those two the Crows will mix it around with some different combinations of smalls and talls. Beinke is expected to be named and is a very good marking player but has no skills when the ball hits the ground. Crowell is interesting because he has been in reasonable form in recent weeks and in my opinion could be a bit of a wildcard for the Crows. Hasn't really had a significant role up forward for the Crows yet but has marking ability and with his pace can be damaging on the lead, much in the Scott Welsh, Brett Burton mould. Scott Welsh was very damaging early in the year but has been out for close to three months. First game back last week and struggled with the pace. Hopefully is better for last weeks run.

Anyway, looking forward to hearing some matchup suggestions from Melbourne fans, especially on the Crows forwards.

No doubt Bruce will get Burton again, killed him at Optus.

Lamb will get who ever plays at Full Forward (Crowell,Bienke or Biglands, possibly all 3 at some stage).

Bizzell will play on the Centre Half Forward (Stevens I assume)

Wheatley will get the 3rd tall (either Welsh or one of those already mentioned) His drive from half back will have to be quelled, he has a huge kick on him.

If Adelaide go ultra tall Jolly will pick up the fourth, he's not a bad Centre Half Back but would struggle at Full Back.

Adelaide should be wary of loading their forward line with giants, as our defence are lightning in transition from the opponents 50 to it's own. North & St.Kilda tried this & got run over in the 2nd half.

I'd reckon Godfrey will get Goodwin, Godders is very tough & plays tight.

J.Mac will get McLeod, did a good job at Optus but McLeod is class & will be respected.

Yze vs Stenglien is a moral I reckon. Yze was completely ignored by Jess Sinclair last week & he hammered them. I'd reckon Stengers will play a tad closer this week;). Yze sometimes struggles with taggers but some times they have no effect.

Ricciuto will probably be picked up by Leoncelli/Powell in rotation. Chell seems to do well against the Crows & has done the job on Roo before.

Woewodin,Brown & Ward need to be watched as well, all 3 are in good form.

Vardy,Green & Robbo always present problems for the opposition as all 3 can take a mark & can crumb packs as well. Usually only 1 of them fire but that's normally all it takes.

As for the Coleman Medalist, Nathan Bassett will have his hands full on his ex-teammate.
