Smashed in the ruck
Smashed on the rebound
Smashed by their small fwds

Didnt take our opportunities in front of goal, overal lucky to not lose by more.

I think membry could have been good in this game, needed that bigger crash n bash body.

The biggest flaw in the two ruckman game plan is if you get short on the bench your run falls away. The lack of experience did not help during that second quarter and they were out of puff when we needed run in that last quarter. but some really good signs from some of the youngsters. I agree that dunstan needs to rest and Sinclair is struggling. D-maz is learning the hard way but has so many tools for this level.

I was actually impressed with Eli, he is a footballer. Just struggles to gut run, thus a sub option only at present. The back six is very good and only get really opened up when there are turnovers or quick ball. Would like us to develop a couple of better kick out options but work in progress. Webster and savage so important down back. Best game of the year from newnes and seems the type to work into games and seasons. Old head on young body. Armo and steven were very good but polish still lacking. The rucks both competed well and once the sub rule has gone this might be a winner....

Forward line really missed lonie and roo. Depth just not there yet but give it time. Happier man then if I was a dees or blues supporter. Also like how richo did not except it at three quarter time. Real hard focus on winning the hard ball and putting the body in. Important to keep the standards high whilst understanding the improvement.

Positives;

Bruce looks like a genuine star. He took 12 marks, 5 of which were contested. Had 4 tackles and slammed through 5 goals.

Armitage was quite good again. Couple of bad bad kicks inside 50 today, but still managed 31 touches and 8 clearances.

Savage was back into some good form. Uses the ball well.

Templeton really took his chance today. Pressures really well and set up 2 goals. He had 8 tackles. Holds his spot for next week.

Hickey looks quite dangerous as a forward. A couple of times he won the ball at ground level and just missed his snaps.

Newnes probably had his best game for a couple of weeks. Missed a couple of easy easy shots though which would've disappointed him.

Fisher was good as well.

Negatives

We were soooo wasteful. Terrible kicks going into fifty and missed nearly all of the 50/50 shots which they were kicking.

Jacobs got free way too often. So often he was the link man on the weak side and unfortunately longer and hickey were nowhere to be seen.

McKenzie tries hard but I thought he made a couple if big blues today. That being said - should keep playing him

Dunstan couldn't get into the game. He got shifted forward and got a couple if chances but missed them.

Sinclair today just burnt the footy too often. Usually looks so composed, but overhit quite a few of them today.

I think for a lot of the game other than about the first 15 minutes if the second quarter, we were right in the game. We just couldn't convert by foot and Adelaide smashed us on the rebound all day - scoring much too easily.

We just couldn't slow them down at times and it gave Dempster no chance .

Really frustrating game to watch because we could've finished so much closer.

Well Riewoldt has basically replaced Membrey so if we had've known Riewoldt would be KO'd before quarter time then Membrey would've been handy.

Bruce and Hickey pulled their weight but losing Riewoldt screwed up a lot of our forward structure, so much of our game plan revolves around him.

If we can get Rooey, Joey and Gears back for next week we will give West Coast a real shake at home at the dome, even without them I'd back us in.

cant see Rooey playing next week :(

Was it Dempster that got absolutely destroyed by betts?
Our late outs hurt bad, geary was probably our no. 1 option on betts... Missed montys ability to link up. Templeton only 13 possessions... he just can't find the ball at afl level.
Roo/Lonie going down with head knocks early really hurt, hope they're both ok!

Bruce is a monster tho! Can't believe how good he is.
Arno/Steven another ~60 disposals between them, nowhere near the impact of last couple weeks... But still good. Newnes solid again!

Quite a few of the young guys had quiet weeks after last weeks monstrous effort.. (Sinclair, McKenzie, Dunstan, Longer) But surely they're backed in again?
Acres deserved first crack over Shenton/Templeton too...

Membrey back in if Roo doesn't get up..
Gears, Monty should be right to come back in.
And time to get games into Acres

cant see Rooey playing next week :(

He's probably going to be doubtful, if he isn't right then it gives either Membrey or McCartin another opportunity which isn't a bad thing.

Riewoldt is a freak though so I wouldn't write him off but if he isn't 100% then there is no point risking him.

That Nick concussion took wind out my sails but ill have a go....

Positives
Hickey, incredibly agile and athletic for his height, still pleased with his efforts
Josh Bruce, tried to be Josh and Nick, up and back, led all day
Armo, my respect grows weekly
Weller did very well on danger for the most part
Webster blossomed as the game went on

Negatives
Concussions
Late omissions
Eddie
Lynch, likes to show us we were wrong
Newnes, think he's a potential gun, but lacks composure...cause I know he can kick

Goal kicking was poor, but there are some big positives.

Someone tell me Billings won't make it in midfield. Received closer attention this week but his hands were super clean, just needs to clean up his set shot goal kicking. Was one of our better players in quarters 2 and 3

Bruce :thumbsu: kicked bags on Talia and Hooker, two really good defenders, what a find!

Tom Hickey very smart, looks better as a fwd/ruck than just ruck.

I don't think anyone was able to truly enjoy that game after the sickening head clash looming over us with Riewoldt- I'd assume I wasn't the only supporter worrying about that. Riewoldt, in-form Lonie and Montagna all gone really hurt us- especially considering we had to make do with one less player on the bench than usual. That said, I'm actually pleased with how we did today. We competed strongly and it was a pretty even game, regardless of what the scoreboard tells. The main disappointments is that we missed a lot of goal opportunities. I think with more accurate kicking we may have been able to push the momentum our way and had a very close game. Great performances from Armitage, Stevens, Webster, McKenzie, Bruce, Hickey and Fisher, and Eli did well too.

I would like to see us go away from the 'around the outside' style of play we've been doing for majority of the last 5 weeks or so. It doesn't compliment a lot of our players like Armitage, Stevens, Billings, Sinclair, Savage. When we score it's by creating a turnover and going straight through the middle of the ground.

All in all I'm actually impressed with how we did today given two players down in the first quarter, and the likes of Riewoldt and Montagna missing. Strong 4 quarters of football with swings in momentum both ways, unfortunate that we weren't more accurate in front of the goalposts.

Oh I also thought it was Websters best game of the year and he continues to improve. Very good kick of the footy.

Billings was OK, got a lot of the footy but the majority by hand and missed a couple if chances he'd usually nail.

We were -30 in contested possessions and -13 in clearances and it's hard to win based just on those stats

Shenton. Ugh.

He is what he is.

Emergencies are simply that, they aren't supposed to play unless worse case.

Gives his all, to the best of his ability.

But if everyone is fit & firing....

Happy to see we fought back into it, despite running out of puff late.

We're getting there.

The two players I was most worried about were probably our downfall in the end: Jacobs and Betts.

If we had kicked accurately in the second and third quarters we might have been a chance - I think there were at least 5 set shots that absolutely should not be missed at AFL level but they were. :(

Overall not too disheartened though, it was a very inexperienced team out there after Rooey and Joey were missing, and I thought Bruce once again was a massive positive, as well as Newnes, who probably had his best game for the year so far.

Way to many skill errors ( Steven ) , missed that second target in forward 50 ( Membrey )
I think we missed Gears down back .
Dunstan and Lonie need a spell ( protect our youth )
Shenton and webster have had better days .
Massive positive TICK for Bruce , Weller , Armo
Mckenzie , Sinclair , Billings , Templeton chipped away .
All in all disappointed we lost , concerned for Nick , but we had a crack ;)

Today showed how important Geary is to us. Missed another general down there and he wouldn't have let Betts kick 6 on him, that's for sure.
Geary gets way too much stick on here, he makes up for it on the defensive side.

You're not wrong there...

Last 2 games betts vs Geary-less saints = 11 goals
4 games prior to that on Geary = 2 goals and a frustrated cheap shot on wright

No easy possessions on Jarryn, I got told I wear rose coloured glasses for saying so on twitter but I don't care.

If people were bagging anyone else unfairly, I'd like to think I'd fly in too
