I actually think that Dunstan will suffer from Luke Ball syndrome if we don't start looking after him more. Heavy inside work is tough for anyone, let alone a 19 yr old. I personally think he should have a week off every 5 weeks or so just to manage him through the year especially considering the shoulder ops he had last year.

To me he looks like the 'The General' has caught up with him... (soreness)

And with Armo & Steven going well, there's less ball for Dunstan to win compared to last year when they were both out for periods. Probably why his 2nd year numbers are down. I have faith though - he will be a gun

Really valid point, and it's not like we're aiming for finals.

Considering the early injuries to key players, this was a game we would've lost by 100+ points if it was last year or the year before.

I see improvement and pretty much all of us agreed that's all we wanted to see this season. I'm very happy with where we're at, even when we're flat we show something.

One of those games where you just can't wait to get home from. As unlucky as we were with injuries, to come out of it with nothing too serious was extremely lucky. Nick and Jack Lonie will probably miss next week and it'll be wait and see on old man Joey.
Big day at Frankston tomorrow, Blake knows if he hits his markers tomorrow he gives himself a real chance to play and all eyes will be on Paddy and Tim Membrey.

Im very excited about what I saw.

Terrible shots on goal. We got caught out a fee times but we are playif a great brand of footy and we can only grt better.

How good was mcKenzie?? Great mark! Great workrate and vision. Only his second game?? Wow.

A lot to look forward to.

Have a look at carlton or richmond or demons to see what they are doing compared to us. We are in the right track.

46 points with late goals to them having one down at qtr time ... Lost all 3 captains for game ... We couldve really got blown away but kept fighting

If you look at Boyds & Pattons/Danihers form its obvious that Paddy is gonna take time. And thats fine:thumbsu:
Membrey is probably never going to be a gun like those 3 but he could be an awesome 3rd fwd and i think physically he is ready now.
So id put him in.

As somebody at the ground today, don't underestimate the sun. There were plenty of times, especially in the forward lines (where the stands on the wings didn't shield the ground) that it was very hard to see. The Crows players knew how to play with that sun far better than our crowd, it was obvious.

The other thing was that where there WAS shade, on the wing, it was rather wet and dewy, and lots of players slipped over. Our players favoured that wing for the first half, while Crows generally avoided it. We got wise by the last, but by then it was too late.

Give Dunstan a break next week Acres needs a full game hopefully he gets it this week, get rid of ****ing Shenton for ****s sake wasn't bad he's just a *******

Im OK on constructive criticism .
But if we just say So n So was " F-ing S*** cos hes a useless f*****.
Then we re just being like a Richmond supporter.
We gotta be a little smarter than that surely o_O

God bless the boy, but Shenton had a shocker. He was constantly in two minds (probably because there were limited forward options), and walked into way too many tackles without getting his hands free. Bit of confidence would help him. At his best he will be a solid depth player that could step in in finals like games and be serviceable. That's more than most could claim.

Dunstan!? Sounds and looks like he's carrying an injury, which is affecting his confidence as well as his output. Bit rushed with his disposal this year, and obviously down on numbers. I remember reading somewhere he was feeling very fatigued through last year and went onto a low carb diet. This could be a good thing, he might still be figuring out his nutritional needs and have low energy levels. Once he gets on top of everything he still has truly A class upside as a bullocking inside mid. Seb will be back soon to fill his role as it looks like Dunstan needs, and will get, a rest soon. Which is nice news for Seb, as long as he doesn't forget to work on his outside game.

Sinclair will be a jet in the not too distant future, needs to get to more contests, but I'm very confident in him. Sounds like his time is up for now?

Dempster, poor bastard. Wasn't the right match up for him, but with gears out we weren't left with much. Betts is a fantastic player, and Demps doesn't have the agility and speed to go with him these days. But in his prime you could knock a few goals off todays tally. Betts had fantastic service and made the most of it. I don't watch Adelaide enough to know how often Eddie produces this kind of performance, but just off, you know, the "gist" of it, I reckon Betts is quite underrated compared to say, Rioli or Motlop. Mainly because Carlton were so poor for so long. Happy to be corrected.

So yeah, good game Betts, about 55% as good as Milne on an average day, and I don't give compliments easily.

I'd give Mckenzie one more week, low numbers but every time he does get near it I get a warm tingly feeling, which is a different warm tingly feeling from the one I get when I watch the 2010 draw, right before I pass out.

Bruce. Bruce is a fantastic forward. Like Milne and Betts, Bruce has something all great forwards have. The ability to read the flight of the ball a fraction of a second faster than most, allowing him to position himself and use his strength/good hands to mark it. This isn't just in battles of strength, you see it in his leads too. One of the best things you can do on a lead, if the ball is kicked a little close to you, is to slow down your run and let your opponent run into your back/'stiff arm to the chest' a little, killing their rhythm just at the point you accelerate yours, giving you separation. Jack Riewoldt is another that springs to mind with these traits, especially reading the flight of it. Future coleman medalist is Brucey.

Everyone else seemed ok I guess. Glad Roo is ok. It wasn't bad, it wasn't good. If that's the standard for our bad performances I'm alright with that, for now, especially with a man down, but we can be a lot better than that, and it mainly comes down to intensity. I almost want Roo to retire just so he doesn't continue to put himself in harms way, Catherine must freak out every game he plays.

Keep 'em comin'

I think we didn't play that well (contested possession was a big loss), but had we kicked straight, we would've been well in the game. That's a good sign for me.
I do have questions about the game plan though, we push so far up toward our own forward line to defend and then get cut open with the long quick rebound. Betts was a big winner from this (he did play well too). I'm not saying the plans wrong but it would be good to hear richo talk a bit about it and what we're trying to do.
Maybe we're not good enough yet to nail it, but it's how we will play when we're pushing back up the ladder.

I love our frontal pressure. Sure sometimes if the opposition breaks through it, they can get us out the back. However nearly always before it gets to the other end we have a contest which we have an opportunity to win.

We have created a lot of goals and mid turnovers playing this way.

And the thing is, we get to control it. If we sit deeper and there's more space for the opposition to operate through, we have very little opportunity to create a turnover.

Creating turnovers is a very very important part of scoring. We didn't do enough of this last year.

Adelaide rebounded so successfully today because when they had a chance to even a ball, Adelaide were smashing us in those situations. -30 contested possessions is testament to that.

And another reason that they were getting out the back is because the forwards were cheating away from the contest as they expected there teammates to win the contested possession.

If we're evening those contests, the forwards stay up around the pack and we're much less likely to get done out the back.

Our pressure was very good today, however our decision making, use of the ball and contested stuff was poor.

When you continually give the ball back to the opponent it makes it difficult for our team to set up, especially if Adelaide moved it quickly without much resistance, which they were doing.

Poor Cam is shuffled in and out of the team every few weeks. May not be the greatest on our list, but he has a go and has no continuity to his selection / position. Can't be easy for him. But hey, let's just stick the boots in because we can.

he wasn't on his own yesterday. I reckon there instances where players were reactive instead of going in for the ball.

Thank goodness forr Fisher and Dempster. And I love Delaney. There, I said it. I love him. Been a while since we've had a hard nut full back with a bit of mongrel. Absolute steal.

Another game another step in the right development direction in my opinion yes it was tough, no Geary (who IMO would have negated Betts), No Leigh, and then No Lonie & Riewoldt.

Backs against the wall against a good team and in Adelaide, I thought we did quite well.

Positives for me (and in no particular order):

Roberton - Will be our dempster in 2019 (scary that 09 is so far away now)
Billigns - Like Rahul said, clean disposal (should have kicked 2, hopefully he works harder at training for these misses)
Bruce - Wow, if Paddy becomes solid (and why shouldnt he at a minimum) we have an awesome set of KPF in our hands
McKenzie - In the few patches he had it, just looks like a 'Real Pro'
Delaney - Standard, Beating his oponent IMO
Templeton - Great to see him out there, will be better for the run (lets get '50 games' into him)
Webster - Loving this guy, will play 10 years of Gwilt's 2010 form - Love it.
Hickey - loving his games

Improvements I would like to see:

Dunstan - Like the guy a lot, does seem not him self, 100% belief that the Richo and staff will protect him
Shenton - Yeh, Suprised by him being put in, in front of Acres, I think we all want to see games into Acres, that quarter a few games back got us excited

Overall, we just need games in the boys, in 3 years time, I think we will be looking very good. I hope we can see Acres and Ross get a run of 10 or so games and show plenty - this to me highlights our rebuild is on track perfectly!!
